Beryl, as a Black Woman I can assure you that I am not offended by your use of the word "golliwog". There are undoubtedly words that doo offend (like the "N" word) but I just think it's sad that nowadays, intead of focusing on what's REALLY important (young people killing each other, harmful drugs being legalised, etc,) we have to worry about crap like this!

there is no need to apologise for using the word golliwog. the word has been around alot longer than these so called political correct governors that are dictating what we can or cannot say. used in the right context it is not offensive. are we all supposed to call "cows" bovines now because that could be construde to be offensive by the pc brigade. i still remember the little golliwog toys and badges that children collected and the pictures on the marmalade jars, its part of our history.

Think nothing of it's not offensive to me, but there again I am completely broad minded and do not go all out looking for words that will offend anybody.Remember if we put our minds to it we could all find something offensive if we wanted to, there is one thing that I do find upsetting and that's all the bull that goes with this PC rubbish. I've been selling loads of 'Jolly Gollies' in my garden centre recently ... they've been absolutely flying off the shelves. Everybody who sees them thinks it's ridiculous that you can't call them Gol......... anymore - just another example of political corectness gone mad. I wouldn't mind so much, but the initial letters stand for Westernised Oriental Gentleman ..... so why does anybody take offence at that!!!!!
