right now i have them just thrown in there. I have 80's movies by themselves, and tv shows on dvd by themeselves...other than that they are just thrown onto the shelves of the stand.
I used to have them by actor...and then i had them alphabetically..... Sometimes its really hard to find movies....whats the easiest way to do this?

First by genre
Then Alphabetically.
You can find a horror that starts with G in no time.

You pick movies mostly based on the genre: comedy, action, drama, etc. So sort them that way. Also you may want to put the the most recent ones separate from the older ones. I would have 2 main sections: new and old, and divide these into the different movie genres.

I have 1,200 movies, I love them. I arrange them into 2 main catagories then I arrange them alphabetically. The catagories are Television and Movies. Then they are arranged alphabetically. If I have multiple versions of movies the first to come out is the first in order. There are a few exceptions to the ordering; All movies in a series are grouped together in order starting with the first movie in the series, Silence of the Lambs, first, then Hannibal then Red Dragon. I also have a complete list of my movies, complete with who stars in them and a brief description of each. Yes, I am wierd, but I can admit it!

We have kids, so we have divided them first by Rating, each shelf is a different rating group with G movies on the bottom shelf and R movies on the top. Then I've subdivided by genre and then alphabetized. A lot like blockbuster.

I like to organize them in genres first - action, comedy, drama, science fiction, etc. and then alphabetically by the title. This also keeps my concert videos and instructional stuff nicely separate from the feature films.

Definitely alphabetically. Don't categorize them in any other way, that way when you are looking for a certain movie you can go straight to it.

I think the best way to orginize movies is by genre and then by year and then by

I would either do it by genre or what I watch the most of, and stick the crappy ones in the back.
