I know there are questions similar to this, but I wanted to get some advice on my specific scenario. On Monday the 12th, I had a technical interview for a position that I am very interested in. I was told that while the interview was for a specific position with this manager's department, he would also be taking the feedback from my interview to a bi-weekly hiring committee meeting to share with other managers. I was told that it would be a week or two before I should expect to hear back. It is now the following Thursday. At what point would it be okay to call back? AND what would be something appropriate to say?

So it's been almost 2 weeks. I would say you can call next Monday and ask if they were able to get together and discuss your interview. In the meantime, it's helpful to send a card or an email that thanks the person who interviewed you for his time. And tell him if he has any further questions, don't hesitate to call or email you at : and provide your cell number, home number and email address (hopefully you have a professional address and not beerking@yahoo.com, which I have seen many times before.) Good luck!

Chances are when you call back you will only end up with a receptionist anyway so here is how I would put it:

"Yes it's................... calling to do a follow up on an interview which I had on Monday March 12. This interview was for the position...........................and I was interviewed by ...................
I understand that the interview process was going to include some other managers and might take a couple of extra weeks before a final decision was made. Could you please contact .................................... and find out if a suitable candidate for the position has been hired yet? I am still very much interested in the the job and just wanted to touch base to see if the position was still open. Would you mind calling me back a little later to let me know how things stand? it would be very much appreciated.

Once again my name is ............................and my tel # is...........

They just want to put you in their "database" if that's what they really do...who knows ???

Face it, people are told ALL THE TIME by recruiters "I have to check with my account manager and I'll get back to you" then they never hear from them again.

Other applicants are told " I have to see an applicant in person before he or she can go to an interview with one of our employer clients" -- which is against the law, because it rules out ugly or dressed down individuals in the process. Sometimes there actually IS an employer, most of the time there isn't, so you're just spinning your wheels and wasting gas...

Don't get laid off if you were previously hired by one of the recruiters here either...because they won't EVER talk to you again...

I've been told that the local job recruiters rule out minorities, older men and women, greyed haired people, veterans and even single mothers here in Glen Allen and Richmond, Virginia.

I have to wonder about disabled people as well...

Last but not least, let's not forget those Project Manager positions that only go to people who either are related to someone in the company, know one of the top executives, or have a friend in some recruiting shop in the local area.

Bottom line, unless it's a specific gauranteed interview with a REAL employer I wouldn't waste your gas money to go to an interview that isn't going to go anywhere...

If all of this seems odd, look and see just how many open positions remain for months and months and months on end here in Richmond, Virginia without being filled.

SOMEONE has to be qualified somewhere...maybe even here ???

Been there. Ok, first, do not call back at least until Monday the 26th because that will be the beginning of the third week. You can send a thank you follow-up remember me card. But if you are anxious like me you can also call. Call back and asked them if they have made a decision. Best Wishes!
