Can someone reccomend a good modernist author?

One who has a unique writing style, stories on the shorter side, and simple language. I was thinking someone along the lines of Kafka.

Sure sounds like you are talking about Hemingway.

One of my favorites is Richard Bach, Illusions. Not exactly like Kafka, more spiritual (not christian spiritual) about it. But, it's simple, short, and is an amazing book.
