I have a friend that has a very stressful, demanding job. It seems that everytime he has a day off, and I try calling him to hang out or IMing him, he flips out and talks about he's too stressed out and not in the mood for whatever I happen to be talking about. Now, I'm all for supporting a friend even when times are rough, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be demonized every time he has a bad day. Do you think I should just end the friendship?

This has been going on for weeks.

It's not like I'm bugging him everytime he's away from work. I only IM him about once a week, and I get my head chewed off every time.

Give your friend some space. If he chose to get involved in a demanding, stressful job, that was his decision. It seems like you understand that he's under a lot of pressure. Maybe if he wants to hang out with you, wait for him to call you, but never force yourself to keep on trying if he's not responding. Let him know that you're here for him and that you kind of miss having him around. What he chooses to do about that is up to him...you've done your part. I wouldn't say to end it abruptly, but over time if he's still wrapped up in his job I don't think there's anything else you can do but drift apart. Sorry bout that :(

I wouldn't end the friendship, I would just give him some space and see if he calls you. After a little break and he is still treating you badly then say "hey, look man, your supposed to be my friend!"

If he just vents, he may be using you as a release. Sometimes the best of friends have the crappy end of the stick by letting a friend take their bad day out on you.

Good luck.

don't push yourself on to him maybe he does not feel the same about you in the friendship.be cool and see how much time goes by before he calls you. If he does not, then he is not the kind of friend you thought he was. time will tell.

no. just avoid him & wait for him to call you. i have a job like that & in the beginning it frustrated me when friends called me all the time to go out. i was too exhausted to go & was grouchy. after they stopped pressuring me to hang out, i started calling them more often. hopefully, if u lay off he'll realize he misses hanging out with u. good luck.
