Yes it's true. I think your doctor knows what he's talking about on this one. My daughter once went eight days without a poop when she was about three weeks old. SHe only likes to do one once every few days anyway so it didn't worry me excessively. As along as it's going in and there are plenty of wet nappies it shouldn't be a problem.

If you are worried call your doc again but it's not uncommon. Tiny babies eat so little that there isn't much to waste!!

Think of all the dirty nappies you are missing :)

Congratulations on your newborn !!! Look after that lady of yours who has given you such a gift and enjoy this time!

Try looking up on the (www.drpaul.com) site. They have information about newborn issues. I had the same experience with one of my sons and went running to the hospital thinking this was wrong. The doctor let me know that it's normal. Some babies don't have stools for a couple of days the first two weeks of being born, but if your baby is not sleeping well and experiencing abdominal pain, these might be signs of constipation.

If your baby is seeming fussy, or bloated, then use a suppository for babies. Available at most pharmacies over the counter. They had to do this in the NICU for my son. Don't use the whole thing, only a tiny peice of it. The digestive tract on a baby is the last to develop, so it is sometimes slow. If your baby does not seem to be bloated, or uncomfortable, just wait until the fifth day. Good Luck!

It is true, newborns often go for several days without pooping, especially breastfed babies.
I had this very same worry with my youngest, she didn't poop regularly at all, and I was constantly worrying there was something wrong. It just means that whatever you are feeding her is being totally used up, so long as she is weeing you have nothing to worry about.

My girl did much the same thing I went to
Wal-Mart and got some glycerin suppositories I had to cut a small piece off of one still bullet shaped I inserted it but it popped back out I Finlay put it in and clamped her cheeks together with my hand. About 10 min latter she pooped in my hand and I gave her to my wife. It is one of my happiest memories.

this is true.....some babies will only have a bowel once a week at the beginning, and if your baby isn't crying as if she's in pain, and when she does have a bowel movement, make sure it is not hard and dry.....if it is she is constipated, but if it isn't hard and dry, she is fine

Get her some Enfamil ProSobee formula. You can mix it with breast milk if you want to. My mom used it with my sister when she didnt poop for 4 days and I used it with my daughter. It works! Just make sure you have lots of wipes handy cuz she will give you 4 days worth of poop after drinking that! : )
