My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over 2 1/2 years. He got a new job and we will not be getting insurance for another 9 weeks. I am 11 weeks pregnant now and I really want to go see a doctor to make sure everything is going alright. I am considered high risk because my daughter was nine weeks early and my son was 4 weeks early. I have never been uninsured and pregnant so I am not sure where to go or who to call. Plus I don't really want to go get a new doctor in 2 and a half months when I get insurance. What should I do?
And ideas would help? Thank you!

Go to your local Social Services office (welfare office/department of families and children.. whatever its called in your area). Most states have programs for pregnant women who are eligible. Plus the medicade plans have doctors who are just about in any other popular plan too so when your husband gets his insurance, you could transfer over also if that doctor is in his plan.

Here is a link to national free health care programs.

Also you can go to the free clinic in your area... another option is planned parenthood. http://www.plannedparenthood.org is the website you can go to to get a center in your zip code or area.

Good luck! and congrats!

I'm assuming Washington state. I know from living in both Seattle and Spokane we have some great resources for women without insurance. Healthy Baby Healthy Mom, WIC, and others, not knowing where you are at this is what I can give you information about, the best advices is go to the local welfare office they will have the information. Also if you want to send me you city I have some people (my sister is a part time social worker in Kent) that I can tap to get you more info.

I say talk to your doctor and see if he'll see you before the insurance kicks in. You may have to pay cash, but it's got to be worth it. Otherwise, you can always go to the ER and get billed later for it. In Texas (where I live) all pregnant women if not covered by insurance are automatically covered by Medicaid. Maybe you can check into that.

God bless and congratulations!

I am on a pregnancy plan. They are wonderful! Go on line and find a health Representative close to you. They will come out to your home and talk with you.

God Bless! And congratulations!

*** I UPDATED IF YOU'VE ALREADY READ THIS, READ AGAIN!!!***

So I checked the state site out and you do have a pregnancy medical program. Here's the link:

I don't know if WA state has state-aid for health insurance, like we do in CA. Check out your state website to do some research on it.

If they don't, then try looking into Maternity Card. They will help you get a contracted rate... Here's the site:
