Sadly, this is how the world works. Most states allow firing without cause, they just cannot fire you for certain specific reasons (age, sex, race, etc).
Unless you can prove descrimination, "didn't like me" or "I wanted to hire someone else" are not good enough to go to court. However, if they refuse to give you a good reference, then you might have a case.

If you can prove what you say? You might have a case for wrongful dismissal.
But, most States have whats called "At will employment" this means that your employer can fire you at will anytime for no reason at all and you can quit at will anytime with no reason on notice.

Firstly make sure that your statement is correct, (hearsay is not evidence) ensure that other witnesses will back you in writing or verbally at an industrial tribunal. contact.. your union rep.. talk to you H&R manager and discuss your concerns. Don't make accusations against anyone. get your facts in writing and supported by witnesses.Good Luck

Move to California. It's almost impossible to fire anyone-even when they suck at their jobs.

You can't do much if you live in a fire-at-will state.
