so tell me the story line of cats...im going to it soon and i have no idea what to expect...

I saw it years ago. It's based on a poem by T.S. Elliott - so I don't think there's really a story line. They just kind of check in with a lot of different kinds of cats. And then - there is the old dying cat who sings Memory. What I remember more than anything was the fabulous acting/body work done by the actors who transformed into cats.

Yes--it doesn't have a linear storyline. It's a series of vignettes, snapshots of the cats from Eliot's book.

There is the slim thread of Grizabella's story--she is an older cat (the one mentioned above who sings "Memory"), who's done her time here on earth and longs to go to the Heavyside Layer--sort of the kitty equivalent of heaven. However, her story is nothing you could call an actual plot.

I agree with the above posters that seeing CATS is really about the singing and dancing and awesome characterization of animals. The show is legendary in theatre, so enjoy seeing a true modern classic.

From what I remember, it doesn't really have a traditional storyline. It's more of a series of kind of related stories all involving cats.
