It shoud have a built in modem. so you can go dial up or buy a pcmcia card and go dsl. for that you will need dsl service and a dsl wireless router as well. you are looking at about $50 in equipment and DSL Service. But once you are all set, its great.

If your laptop has a wireless network interface card, all you have to do is be within range of a wireless access point, and you should be able to connect. Be sure the antenna is turned on; I do tech support, and you wouldn't believe how many people simply forget to do this! If your laptop does not have a wireless NIC, then you can get a simple USB wireless adapter.

Unless you are near a public access point (one that is unencrypted), you will need to have your own access point. If you have an internet provider already, the modem may already have an antenna for wireless connectivity. If not, you will need to add a wireless router. You can use dial-up, DSL, or cable for your ISP; if you use dial-up, you'll need to get a stand-alone modem that has a wireless antenna, or a modem that has a Cat-5 output that will enable you to connect it to a wireless access point like a hub or a router. Do NOT let a broadband provider tell you that you need to "upgrade" to their "wireless service" for a monthly fee; as long as you can get the modem output to a wireless access point device such as a hub or router, you're in business.

Netgear or Linksys both make excellent inexpensive routers for $40 or so. A USB wireless adapter shouldn't cost you more than about $20.

Well you leave out a few critical details in order to provide a proper answer.

1) Do you have an Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
2) Is your ISP broadband or dialup?
3) Does your laptop include a network adapter (wired or wireless) or modem?

Depending on exactly what your situations is, someone here can answer the question.

Go to Staples. You can get a wireless router for about $50 and up. It is not expensive and really great connection speed.
