First, add a layer compost to your yard, about 1/2". Then spread your seed. Wait until the grass is a couple of inches high, then fertilize with a good organic fertilizer. The NPK should not be more than maybe 8-2-4 for new grass. Synthetic fertilizers will rob the soil of the nutrients that the compost added to the soil. Wait to do your weed and feed until mid September for your winter weeds. Depending on where you live, spring and summer weeds have already germinated, so it's too late for weed and feed. Also, if you put out weed and feed, then put out seed, your seeds will not germinate, and the grass will not grow. Good luck, hope that helps.
