Life never ends till you cease to breath, but feelings do; so going back to your question; In feelings,I think when he has completed a very important task in life, such as giving future for his children,like educating them and they finish and they can go on with their life by themselves; a career person when he completed a task of performance in relation to his/her profession; an inventor, when he invents a very important machine to help people in their miseries; might be in household or in factories or for business industries, etc...to name a few.

Maybe when they feel happy even when they see sorrow and suffering. You don't need a partner to feel complete. You may even just need a great life style great job and great great great. Maybe, if you feel no doubt or anger or sadness for things.
