My vacuums are pieces of crap. I have had a Eureka and a dirst devil. I vacumm and kitty litter still is on the ground. I havent been able to vacuum for a few days because ours is broken again. I dont want kitty litter around because of my daughter and because of myself. I do not want to go out and buy yet another one just so it can last a week or two and crap out. I cannot afford one of those dysons so check that off. I do not want to spend anymore than 120.00

Please keep in mind this is a family of 4 and I need a pretty good vacuum that can handle constant spills (kids)

By an Oreck. They are very lightweight and durable. They use them in hotels. Dyson vacuums break. Had one and switched to Oreck.

A SEBO. The one I have is awesome. Its relatively quiet, is hospital grade with a hospital grade HEPA filter, automatic height adjustment, German engineered. The reason you may not have heard of it is because its very European. It is reputable and has been used in the Buckingham Palace and the White House, you can't get better than that. They are expensive, so try to find a used one, but keep in mind: If you won't spend the extra money, you won't get the quality. If you insist on the cheaper, try amazon.com and find a commercial vacuum like Hoover or Sanitaire, they are cheaper and will last a long time. They just don't have all of the modern features. Dyson is not all its cracked up to be, its bulky, plastic, and not built to last. No commercial cleaning company I know of uses it for that reason, so that may be telling you something..

The best vacuum I ever owned was a Hoover, check out the WindTunnel, they are reasonably priced, durable and have plenty of suction. I currently have a Dyson that I broke down and purchased because of all the rave reviews and "hype". I do not think it is worth the money, it is no better than my Hoover, which was a third of the price. From past experience of selling vacuums (at Sears), I have also concluded that Eureka and Dirt Devil do not have a great track record, your dilemma is a common one. :)

The best is the Filter Queen. This will out perform and out last any vacuum on the market. I have been to several vacuum stores and the owners will back me up 100%.
I live in Alabama and buy replacement filters from Hap's in Mesa AZ and to this day he still uses a Filter Queen to vacuum his shop and warehouse. He says it the best money can buy. Ours is 17 years old and never had a problem. Just empty and replace filter and keeps on running and does a very good job. It will filter the air and rid your house of odors and freshen the air threw out your home also. You will be very happy with one. I'm very surprised that the Filter Queen wasn't mention in other replies. There are lots of households that use thr Filter Queen. Have never heard anybody say anything derogatory about a Filter Queen. Check it out on eBay.

i ,being a smart shopper, and a person from a family of 5 children do know the answer!
I understand the 120.00 spending limit , but that will only put you back in the same spot in 1-2 months.
go get a dyson! please feel free to do the reseach they should be the # 1 seller
you can get them for 399-4 hundred dollars. I'm sure if you add the last three you had you will certainly see my point.
I got (which I begged for)a dyson for x-mas and it's the best I've ever had.
and I'm 45, married since 15 so I've had a few!

I recently bought a Royal Vacume. It's great. I liked it so much I bought a Royal Shampoo Machine also. Also great.
They were about $300 each.
Find a dealer, check out several brands while in the store.
