American cars have been troublesome for the past 20 years. They've been trying to keep up with imports on quantity scales. Not quality. Get a 20 year old Honda and it will still run. Get a 20 year old Dodge, it'll last you a lifetime if you rebuild it every ten years. I've got a '67 Camaro. She's in great shape but my dog is older than almost everything in it.

I have over 200,000 miles on my 1993 Dodge Dakota pick-up, and it is running fine. The timing belt was replaced about 10,000 miles ago on the advice of my mechanic. The truck is tough, too. My wife hit an animal with it, on a gravel road, lost control and rolled it into the ditch, first on its side and then on its top. Buckled in, she had only minor scrapes and bruises. Bent in the top and driver's side door a just little, but that was all.

The new ones are much better but the best ting to do is change the timing belt in an older one. That and the transmission are the main things to go in a car that has over 100.000k on the clock...

I used to love them, but since they 80's I think they have been making junk that is designed to fail. I will not be buying another Dodge unless it is 70's or older.
My dad and I both had Dakota trucks. My '88 4cyl. engine failed at around 62,000 miles. His '92 6cyl. engine needed a complete rebuild for a known problem at 65,000 miles. Both trucks received the recommended maintenance.

They can't be too good cause I haven't heard about one or seen one in a really long time. In fact, are they still being made?
