I don't know about the "often" part, but I actually did experience culture shock. I spent years abroad. And when I finally came home, it took a few weeks for me to readjust to life here.

Even the little things took some adjustment.
Overseas, I lived in a huge city, where I took public transit, walked, or took taxis. I had almost everything delivered. I even dressed in a certain way and conducted myself in a certain manner to minimize unwanted attention.
And when I came home, it felt weird driving a car for every errand...wearing shorts and tank anywhere... I even found myself still using slang from overseas

But it totally wears off, and I found that I appreciate my life here even more.

Even after a couple of weeks, I still revert to the foreign language and find myself missing some of the people. It takes a little bit to readjust to the pace of things here and the routine.
