Its true the the best standalone thermostat on the market right now is the Honeywell 8000 series touch screen thermostat. Not only is it easy to use and program, but its best feature is called "active recovery." This means that the thermostat learns when it needs to turn on daily to get the most efficient use of your system.
If you are looking for interoperability in thermostats, then you'll need to switch to a zone control system, which usually consists of a main controller and then three wired (or wireless) thermostats. Honeywell also makes a product called the Totalzone system.
Finally there is a product from Prolifix that is designed to control your thermostats through an online-based web portal

I don't know about best, but Honeywell is pretty good and common. I've never heard of hooking them together.

I'd recommend you deciding how many programs you need per week. If you are on the same schedule during the week a 5+2 or 5+1+1 should do.

I'd advise against getting one with 7 day programming unless you really need it. It gets old putting everyday's programs in.

It depends if you want programable or not. programable will allow you to set differant temperatures at differant times of day. Honeywell is really the better name but it all depends on features. As is do you have gas heat or electric or heatpump.
one that has batteries or not. The best is to get 1 that does not run on batteries but has them for memory, but an additional wire might be needed. the Honeywell touchscreen is the best it keeps memory without batteries and is completely configurable to any system.
