It's just from using those muscles. How long have you been playing? Eventually it will stop doing that, so just keep at it and you'll get used to it.

They hurt because maybe you haven't used them that much in a while. If your mouthpiece is pushing on the roof of your mouth too hard, take it out a little bit. Maybe you need a softer reed if your mouth hurts too bad. Take your time and work up to a harder reed. As for the pain, I can't suggest anything except give playing a rest for a bit. Just not too long, so you can build up more muscle and it won't hurt after a while.

I've played the Saxophone since sixth grade and it has the same type of mouthpiece. My mouth used to hurt alot too, but it's just like excercise for your jaw and is working the muscles in your mouth. It will eventually go away, but if you want easy fixes for now at least, here are some:

Use a small piece of First Aid Tape and fold it in half, placing it over your front teeth

Orajel, it numbs your mouth for a while, and it will probably lessen the pain.

U know, I WAS WONDERING THE SAME THING!
Except I play flute, but it does the same to me.. The reason it hurts is because ur constantly having to use your face muscles, and after awhile it begins to hurt like CRAZY. There really isn't a cure, except try to take more breaks in between playing. To make it feel better, I just don't know that...lol! :)

to play you tighten up the muscles in and around your mouth. especially for lower and higher notes. after a time you get used to it. theres not much you can do now except bear through it.

just keep on playing. your mouth hurts like that from using muscles that you don't usually use. it will eventually stop hurting.

TOO MUCH STRESS AND TENSION , PLAY THE GLOCKENSPIEL INSTEAD. YOU WONT HAVE TO STICK IT IN YOUR MOUTH WHICH MEANS LESS TENSION
