Because the leftist media covers for him...they love goofy Al because he's spouting the latest mantra of the Far Left...GLOBAL WARMING...
he came to my high school back in the 70's. know what he was screaming bout then? GLOBAL COOLING!
He's a shyster of the lowest order, a policy wonk incapable of honest thought.. he claims to be a Tennessean, but has never spent one day in a TN school...his family farm's just been cited for grand-scale pollution from his zinc-mines...
he buys those "carbon credits" (that's a hoot in itself...) from a company he created out of thin air, that does nothing but sells their credits to him, the sole proprietor of that company.
Al Gore is a jackass...and so is anyone who listens to him. As a tennessean, I can say that...and you all can thank us for not allowing him to carry his 'home state' in the 2000 election...so he never made it to White House.

Instead of only looking at the electric bill. look at the size of his home along with it... It is absolutely huge..meaning more money. He is out there trying to make a difference...don't judge him by his electric bill.
