We happen to be the number 3 planet away from the sun. The distance about 93 million miles. This distance is also the basis for the "aU" or astronomical unit. Astronomers use the aU to measure distances that are much further. For example: 2 aU's would be 2 times the distance from the sun to the earth. It takes light rays from the sun about 8 minutes to get to earth. Tell that to your teacher and you just might get some brownie points.
