When I went in for my first ultrasound at 8.5 weeks, they measured the baby's size at only 7 weeks, and they couldn't find a heartbeat - the baby was dead. My body didn't get rid of it, though - it's what is called a "missed miscarriage". I had to have a D&C to get rid of it. My doctor said my body would get rid of it eventually, but it would be painful, so I opted for the procedure - hospital, full anesthesia, pain meds.
From what I understand, they should be able to see the heartbeat with no problem at 8 weeks. But your doctor should have told you that - mine did, right after my ultrasound she said she was 100% positive the baby was dead. Not exactly what I was expecting.

My mother went in to get a check up and make sure all was ok with her pregnancy. well they told her that they couldn't hear a heart beat. There is a vaginal ultra sound they can do, they did it with me. but, for my mother they told her that she miscarried. She got a second opinion and found out that she was still pregnant, and there was a heart beat. always, always get a second , third, or fourth opinion!! my brother wouldn't of been born if she didn't he is 18 now and is an awesome brother!. as for me, i was almost 16-18 wks. on christmas day, after spending time at my parents house. i went to the bathroom and started spotting a little which freaked me out. We went to the Er. They did an ultra sound, and they wouldn't let me look at the screen. I had another doctor come in and tell me that there was no heart beat at all. I just couldn't believe it !! I wanted a second opinion. I mean, i thought i felt it. I have been pregnant 4 times. This angel would of been #2 for me. but, i made an appointment for a D & c, and i was in labor on the way there. When i was on the bed getting ready for the surgery. I started Gushing blood. I told the Guy, and he said " oh, you're just in time". what kind of crap is that to be telling a woman that? after words i felt like my legs were split apart, they hurt so much afterwards, and yes it made me wonder if getting a D & c was like getting an abortion. and it kind of is. But, i didn't know that i could of just went through it at home. Which i have read about people doing. And also, getting to bury the remains. TIl this day, from 2001. I think about it . How they didn't tell me about it, and i regret not being smart enough to know that i could of had a funeral for my baby. Makes me wonder if i could of sued the hospital for it. Sorry, That i went on with more information then you needed to know. I just had to vent this out . Thanks for listening and i Hope this helps. If anyone can tell me about what i went through and about the hospital letting you know about burying the fetus afterwards. It just makes me wonder what they did with < well i want to say "her", I think it was a Girl that i had and i will say she is my angel in heaven, and one day i will get the chance to meet her when I die. God bless!

I am not sure what you mean by a negative heartbeat, but I was hospitalized a few weeks ago (26 weeks along) and while they where monitoring my baby's heartbeat they noticed that there was a time where the baby's heartbeat dropped for a few minutes. They kept me there are night monitoring the baby's heartbeat and the next day called a high risk ob. I was told that it is normal for the baby's heartbeat to sometimes drop.

Do you mean they couldn't detect the heart beat? If that's the case I wouldn't worry. If it was bad, your doctor would have told you. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and just had the heartbeat checked and the doctor couldn't get it (she was able to from the ambilical cord, but not the baby). It just depends on the baby's position and how much they squirm around. Unless your doctor said something, just wait until the next appointment. No stress.

Were they able to see a heartbeat on the Ultrasound? You normally have to be 10 to 12 wks along and in some cases further along to hear the heartbeat. I happened to hear mine at 12 wks along. If they did not see a heartbeat then you should be worried.. but not hearing this early is not uncommon and you should not worry about that. Good luck.

A heatbeat is very hard to get if u can find it at that age. My sons wasnt detected till i was close to 13 weeks pregnant. Wait for ur next doctor appt and the doctor should be able to find it then.
