I play a Taylor 314CE, and play from 1-3 hours a day...change strings about once a month or so. I've never changed the pegs, and they're starting to look a bit ratty. How often should I change them?

Alright... another Taylor player.

You don't need to change them unless: (a) they aren't holding your strings in place anymore, or (b) they, as you said, "look ratty" and you just want to change them.

If you bought your guitar from a locally owned and operated guitar shop, they will probably be more than happy to order a set from Taylor for you. If you got it at Guitar Center, shame on you. There is probably an address for parts in Wood & Steel or on www.taylorguitars.com.

Customer Service can be reached at (800) 943-6782 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

Good luck.

Just change the pegs as they need for asthetic value. If they are an eye-sore to you, that is the clue. I never changed mine and I had my guitar for many years. The strings are the most important thing to keep fresh.

It really depends on how much you play, and how much you sweat. Sometimes I go 6 months without changing strings on my electric, and sometimes I'll replace them when I think they sound stale. I guess if you play a lot, and if the strings start to look ratty, replace them!

I don't think there's ever a NEED to change them regularly. Only if they break or are so worn that they won't hold tightly. If they look really bad and it bothers you, change them. But as long as they clamp the strings down tight, they won't affect the sound.

Change them as needed. Mine seem to go every few years. If you're even thinking about it, you may as well change them. It's easy and short money.
