You should nib the bud rather than looking for politicians. If every citizen of INDIA do not litter and throw their rubbish in a appropriate place why in the first place you have filth streets. There are ample housing but the citizens wants to stay in the slump and They moving them, they will protest. Yes democratic country but the people take democracy in littering and refuse o move out of the slump. I am not a politician but an Indian born in another country. I am proud to say I am an Indian but fellow Indians living in India should work together and get rid of the slumps and rubbish.
My country known for cleanliness and discipline and probably your guess will be correct.

Politicians, though not all, could be regarded as a CLASS OF PEOPLE WHO REACH THE LEVEL OF BECOMING PEOPLE'S LEADERS THROUGH A COMBINATION OF LAUDABLE RHETORIC & UNINHIBITED POPULIST PROMISES FOLLOWED BY A COMBINATION OF CUNNING, IMAGINATION AND USURPING POWER AND AUTHORITY. This is facilitated by the fact that, while the ordinary people at the "lower strata" have neither the time nor the inclination to understand these intricacies (their's being a miserable life of subsistence and survival on a day-to-day basis), the people who represent the "middle" and upper strata feel they have much better things to do than think about such politicians.

This statement is not to obliterate the otherwise excellent and and primordial works done by many LEADERS, without whom the world would have been poorer in many ways.

Examples of such cunning personalities, many of them (made to be) portrayed as saviors, "turn around" gurus...etc, are many:

# Sri Lalu Prasad, a person who has all sorts of cases against him (and who ruled by "default"), when he "put" his wife in the thrones of a Democratic set up.
# Sri Sibu Soren, who is a Murder convict
# Sri George Fernandez, who was once proclaimed as a Terrorist (based on "THE BARODA DYNAMITE CASE")
# Srimati Mayawathi, who is tainted by cases pending against her for amassing wealth, beyond the possible means
# Sri Mulayam Singh, who has cases against him for disproportionate wealth
# Sri Subbu, a person of Nepal, who seems to have forged many Certificates and documents, to become Congress MP, through "stealth"
............ the list will go on and on ...

This writer DOES NOT WISH TO STATE THAT THESE PERSONALITIES HAVE DONE NOTHING FOR THE CAUSE OF SOME SECTIONS OF THE SOCIETY. But the fact is that, under the cover of doing these (and indirectly through covert support), these personalities have taken full advantage of the Democratic System to amass wealth for themselves and their kith and kin. But whether these are RIGHT OR WRONG cannot be proclaimed by people like us or others who think that the they are the "intelligentsia" of this land. This HAS TO BE PROVED DEMOCRATICALLY. And, here lies the "catch". As long as the system is UNABLE TO PROVE THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE MEN AND WOMEN OF BAD INTENT, THEY HAVE THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO CONTINUE IN POWER, DOING ALL THE "MISCHIEF".

That being so, WHAT ACCOUNTABILITY IS THERE IN THE SYSTEM TO MAKE IT MANDATORY THAT THE POLITICIANS/ LEADERS DO DELIVER? At the moment the answer IS AN UNFORTUNATE NO! NO! NO!

Thus, WHY SHOULD THE POLITICIANS BE ASHAMED (OR BOTHERED) OF MUMBAI SLUMS AND STREETS?

Politicians are not ashamed of anything that doesn't threaten their power and privilege. When these slums become an issue that affects votes against them, they will try to solve it or neutralise it in a political way.
