We would need more information to actually answer this. Like: why is her mom doing these things? Is the child following her mother's rules? Are her clothes revealing and the mom doesn't like it? Does she yell back at her mother and that results in a slap?

she should try and speak to her and find out why exactly is her mom behaving this way. There must be some reason and if your friend can find the reason and solve this with her mom, then maybe things might be better.
If her mother is like this all the time by her nature herself, then maybe your friend should just live with the injustice until she grows up and moves out to live a life of her own. Maybe thats best to avoid trouble. Persistence.

As scary as it is, she should talk to a school counselor. she should present it as being concerned for her mom, because otherwise the counselor will just assume it is a typical mother daughter trial. It sure sounds like her mom is in need of some therapy. If your friend is on good terms with a relative, her dad, her grandmother, etc, she should also call them and ask them to come because mom needs help.

you know if your friends mum is hitting your friend (which is illegal, CHILD ABUSE) you should really do something about it. But be sure that it's actually happening first, and that shes not doing it for attention. If it is really happening then call social services. Yet by doing this you could be breaking up her family. hmm, i think the best thing you could actually do is tell your mum, and get her to talk to your friends mum. Hope this helps ;)

WOW! Um, first of all, you need to get your friend out of the house before her mom starts beating her. Let her stay at your house until the authorities know about this. And you need to report her mom to the police soon before it's too late...

Try and talk to the mother, and actually get her at a good time... maybe both of you together confront her..
Maybe in form one of her close friends or a relative that she confides in that you understand.
If this fails to work you could always call a helpline!
