I received a letter from them saying that my meter needed to be replaced and they would be calling today between 8am and 8pm. They emphasised that someone had to be at home. I have waited all day, not gone out, no dogs walked, and they haven't turned up. I'm so angry that I'm determined that they ain't getting away with it! Is there some sort of compensation for this kind of thing? I want to be well prepared before I phone and complain.

Make your coffee first, took twenty minutes for them to answer regarding a meter safety check and then despite the letter in my hand to the contrary, told me I couldn't reschedule for a Saturday, then had the nerve to suggest I wait until the engineer called (and I would have been out) and call again to reschedule (no doubt after similar time waiting). Finally arranged meter inspection, and it was carried out only for another threatening letter saying they need to inspect the meter to arrive a mere 10 days later. Latest call centre stats said on 3 differing calls 35, 20 and 15 minutes waiting time...

Yes you are entitled to compensation for missed appointments. Its likely your meter needs to be changed because of its age its called a 'policy exchange' You can narrow the appointment down to am or pm.

You can get their complaints procedure and a list of compensation types from them if you phone. If youre not happy after youve complained to them, you can take it to Energywatch. The complaints dept no should be on the back of your bill.

If it was me in your shoes I'd simply change suppliers,.. ok I know that won't help you directly, but it'll make a small, *yet noticed, statement saying that you're far from happy about what happened to you.
