I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my group b strep test came back positive. I'm wanting to hear your stories about what happened with you and your babies ....if you had the GBS come back positive. My OB put me on amoxicillin that I'll take for the next 7 days and he said that when I go into labor, he'll make sure I get IV antibiotics.

Also, I believe that my weight gain has kind of been not good. I've only gained 12 pounds. I'm measuring 31 cm. (I'm 5 foot tall and weighed about 115 before this pregnancy, and have one other child)

Words of wisdom?

Words of wisdom? You are doing all you can and should do to have a healthy baby. Take a deep breath (let it out) and get through the next 5 weeks.

For #2 I tested positive for Group B Strep, unfortunately the test was taken late in the pregnancy, the results came back late and little girl came 1 week early and so fast no IV antibiotics could be given to me before she was born. BUT, she did not get strep and was/is perfect. When she was born the hospital automatically gave the IV antibiotics to baby. When I had #3 I asked and now they wait to see if baby has any strep symptoms before they give baby any antibiotics.

You are taking care of this now so it will not be an issue once baby is born.

I've read that measurements are around the weeks you are pregnant, so at 35 weeks you would be between 33 and 37, but you are also smaller than average and this may account for the smaller measurement - but you are not drastically outside the norm.

As for the weight gain - baby is measuring very close to your weeks so the weight gain probably is not an issue. If it was I'm sure you doctor would have said something.

I was and am heavy so when I had #2 and #3, I only gained 7 lbs with #2 and she was 8 lbs 3 oz and I LOST 5 lbs with #3 and he was 8 lbs 13 oz (ouch).

You are doing all the good things and good things will return back to you. Congratulations and take care.

I don't know what your symptoms are - I really think antibiotics are not needed necessarily with strep. I have, for decades, with the help of Homeopathy, treated my kids with that condition without antibiotics ! They all recovered. Don't get an IV while you are labouring - that's makes it very awkward for you.
Is there something on your Doctor's shelf other than antibiotics for you ? There would have been during the time of the British Empire, and that's was a long time ago...
Maybe you should do the test again - sometimes, strep. of that kind is already living on the Lab test-tube. It is VERY possible.
Besides, an antibiotic treatment is not going to help your weight concern.

NOTE: regarding the message following mine: a strep. is a strep. is a strep. The problem here is one of treatment. Antibiotics are not the best thing here. The Doctor has no knowledge of an alternative treatment. Neither does my next commentator. I hope, my Dear Commentator, that your results come back negative, otherwise you will be in the same shoes.
Please do ask your Doc, what would he prescribed in this case, for a Woman allergic to antibiotics ? They exist those Women - what will he do for them ? Nothing ? Will "nothing" suffice ?
One more thing, since you "hate people who don't know what they are talking about", why don't you ask your Doc. whether he would be prepared to WRITE down and SIGN the following statement : " I solemnly declare that all Group B strep Test results, are always infallible and never susceptible to Laboratory contamination."

Don't sweat the GBS thing. You are being treated properly. My OB-GYN had it with her last pregnancy and she delivered a healthy son. It's really a minor thing :)

As for your weight gain, you should gain another 3-5 lbs before you deliver, so you're fine :) And even if you don't, you are very petite, so 12 lbs on you is probably a lot. Also, the dates could be off a little still. You could just have a small baby. Express your concern to your doctor and if he/she is not worried, then try to relax and enjoy your last few weeks as a baby-less woman.

I've been measuring small this whole time. I'm only 4'10". I've only gained 17 lbs this whole pregnancy. I am also 35 weeks pregnant. I only weighed 106 before the pregnancy. I am sure everything is fine.
I was told I will probably have a smaller baby.

I hope that some people understand that you do not actually have strep throat...haha!!! It is something you need to take antibiotics for to get rid of so that it does not get passed on to baby!!! There is no over the counter crap for this...so that answer is BS!!! Sorry...I hate people who dont know what they are talking about.

It is not a big deal...as you will get rid of it and it will not affect the baby. I just had mine but have not gotten my results. Doctor says that about 50% of women have it. It has nothing to do with cleanliness, disease, or anything you have done!!! It just is.

If you doctor is not worried about your small weight gain and small baby then I would not worry!!! You will be having this baby soon, soon, soon!!! Good luck!!!

I didn't have GBS, but OB's these days are so familiar with it, I wouldn't worry if your doctor isn't worried.

And don't worry about the weight either. I have a friend who is around 5'6', and she only gained 14 pounds the whole time with her pregnancy. They know from the sonograms if the baby's size is okay. In your case, it sounds like it just means you are all baby, with no excess, lucky for you!

I had group B strep with my last. I had to have 2 bags of the IV antibodies in me before they would induce (preeclampsia) as she was my 3rd. Other than that... nothing. It really isn't been to big a deal. As far as the weight gain. It isn't enough but if your doctor isn't worried you shouldn't be either. If you are... give them a call. They are good at reassuring people. Good luck

Relax! If there was anything to be worried about, your doctor would have told you...they aren't ion the habit of keeping secrets from pregnant women.
All that can be done for your GBS is antibiotics, so don't worry about that either!
