I don't think you can really add up the costs of the Iraq war. for sure it's in the billions. But, doesn't hold a candle stick to the National debt, which the US has been making interest only payments on since Kennedy was in office. That figure is 9 trillion and grows everyday.

$320 billion. so far, not included in the budget.
No way to know how much more since we have no pull out date, and the sand is eating up equipment and so we need to replace tanks, guns, rockets etc.
Also there are increased VA costs for hospitals and pensions.
At present 51% of our budget is dedicated to past and future responsibilities connected with the military around 30% is dedicated to domestic agendas, including SSI and Medicare. For example the rebuilding of our own country's Katrina damaged coast, not just NO a total of $125 Million dollars has been approved, only half of which has been distributed. A very small fraction of that which has been sent to Iraq.
I make no judgment as to the validity of the war, this is just a dollars and cents question, why give it a thumbs down?

Bill Clinton had the deficit balanced prior to George Bush and now we have a 25 trillion dollar deficit with expenditures in Iraq alone at 2 trillion. This is figured with interest over a 50 year repayment period.....If we leave Iraq today. Congress has posed a exit plan with a 147 billion dollar budget that Bush and the Republicans plan to veto. George Bush is stonewalling the war and wants open ended budget expenses as long as he is President. This one of the reasons Congress is going ahead with the subpoena's to get to the bottom of the current corruption of the Bush Administrations actions......The big topic is where has all of Americas tax payer funds gone the last 7 years.

Much less than the war on drugs, welfare, and a million other useless government programs.
If you're really concerned about the money, why don't you focus on something that's really costing us taxpayers a fortune?
Oh, yeah, you liberals only care about money when it's going for something you don't like. When it's funding some useless art, hand-out program, or other vote-buying scheme, you think the government has an unlimited supply.
Weird, huh?

I can tell you how much it has cost me (as opposed to us); nothing as I lost my job a couple of years ago thanks to Free Trade (company moved overseas, Hewlett-Packard scum) so I haven't made any money so no income tax, lost my home so no property tax.
I'm cool with it but I do wish that Free Trade and the illegal criminal problems would end so I could go back to work.
And oh yeah, I did my time in Nam, disabled and old (they don't want me) or I would join back up and go kick some Islamic but*.

What is worrying is that we are letting so many young American soldiers die, sending so much American dollars and assault weapons and technology to Iraq, and God forbid, who's to tell that the al-Sadr Shiites wouldn't come to haunt us in the future! Are those pro-Iraq Warmongers and those who keep signing off more and more American dollar charity to Iraq be willing to sign a promisory note to take full personal responsibilty and be personally liable for compensation if future massacres of American citizens by the al-Sadr Shiites do occur?
