Depends on what you want to do. Keyboards can be used in many different situations instead of using a mouse. You can use your keyboard to browse through all your programs, start up the internet and type in the address bar etc and you can also use it for different shortcuts. Alt and tab are extremely useful for switching between different programs.

Control; alternate; tab; and function... These keys were the base old-old school navigation. Yes the mouse came later, but since the mouse came along... software developers stopped caring about the function keys and started developing the "buttons" we see now on out desktop. Anyone that considers a Function key a shortcut is mistaken. They are not shortcuts but rather navigation keys. The short cuts are the "buttons" that are stuck all over the modern desktop.

Most programs have keyboard equivalents of mouse functions; however, there's no "standard" of which keyboard keystroke sequence corresponds to which mouse action. It's generally a question of learning the sequences for whatever program you're using.

There are many keyboard shortcuts for your applications. Whenever you use a drop down menu, look to the right, they key strokes are usually next to the command. Also, the Alt key can be used to access these drop down menus and then you can use your arrows and enter keys to use the commands. Hope this helps a little.
