Apparently, the meaning of the song is still obscure. Steely Dan have never really explained the true meaning of the song. This song was written for Rikki Lee Jones.
- stated in an interview by donald and walter in the book "songwriters on Songwriting" by Paul Zollo.
She's a bad *** songwriter in her own right, and apparently they had a falling-out.
However, that is the song meaning- no obfuscation from don and Walter -the answer is plain and simple - it was written for Rikki lee Jones.
