I am looking at a 1997 Honda Prelude with 80,000 miles. It is in excellent condition, 4-cylinder, 5-speed, and has other extras such as alloy wheels and premium sound. It's listed at $8900. Before I buy it, I am going to have my mechanic check it out. Does this sound like a good price to you, or could I talk the dealer down a little?

1997 with 80,000 miles and they want what? I have a 2000 with 65,000 miles, auto, air, new tires, V6, all service records, excellent shape, some leather on seats, sun roof, AM/FM radio with CD changer, a very clean car. Offer me 8000 dollars and see who could own my car. Someone saw you coming. I wouldn't even make them an offer, I'd just run away and find someone else who wants to sell me a car.

8900 is way too much. good call on the 5 speed, auto preludes are junk. you should be able to talk down the dealer quite a bit. you will not regret getting a prelude they are really fun cars.

According to MSN Autos, that is a fair price for the car. Although to the average person it may seem a little high....
If the car is at a dealership, you can always talk them down. You have to understand that when a car is traded in, the dealer usually gives wholesale value.... and sometimes even less. Even if a dealer has a car listed below retail price, they're usually making a nice chunk of profit off the car.
So to answer your question, according to MSN Autos, yes that is a good price. According to real life, I would talk them down some..... at least a 1000-1500 minimum.

If the car had 30k miles and in new condition, it is not worth that money. I would not pay half of what they are asking. The best thing to do is go to www.autotrader.com and look at what people are selling those cars for. Plus understand that you can buy them cheaper than what they are listed for.

it sounds that the car is in very good condition and the mileage in below average so its good, now you might want to check its value go to kbb.com (kelly blue book) and input the specs of the car and see what it tells you.

Go to edmunds.com and find out what you should be paying for it. Print it out. Take it to the dealer. Tell him what you are willing to pay for it.

that is e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e.
Are there two 97 Honda Preludes in that deal, or just one?
Keep looking you will find something just as good but less expensive.
