oooooooooooh....you mean the 5 o'clock SHADOW...lol! its when a guy shaves his beard and the little stubbles start to grow back

A five o'clock shadow, which is what i think you mean, is when a man hasn't shaved all day and has some new facial hair growth - he has a 'shadow' round his chin/mouth. Its nothing to do with bags under the eyes unless its some other saying that I don't know about...

I think what you mean is the 5 oclock SHADOW which is when a man has not shaved since the morning and by 5 oclock he has a dark stubble under his chin which looks like a shadow!

after a man shaves, the hair grows back, this is called stubble, becuase the hairs are like little stumps?

anyway, its also called 5 o clock shadow

A five o'clock shadow is when a mans beard starts showing through. If he had a shave in the morning his whiskers would start showing at around five in the afternoon.

5 o'clock shadow is the regrowth of a man's beard. If enough has grown by 5 o'clock to be a visible shadow, it is supposed to be a sign of virility.

Hence, as J says, "designer stubble" - it is supposed to be sexy, as opposed to just scratchy!!
