My husband and I are currently expecting our second child this summer. We have both decided we don't want anymore children. Which procedure would you recommend? How long did you or your spouse wait after the birth of your last child to have this done?

Thanks!

The "experts" will tell you for the man to get it done.

It is a fact that it's alot easier to do the procedure on a man and the recovery time is shorter.

Simply based on my personal experience, I would tell you BOTH to get it. If you are serious about not having any more children.

Why, you might ask?

Well, a year and a half after my vasectomy... My wife was pregnant again. I went back to the doctor to be tested and sure enough it had reversed itself.

I went and had the procedure repeated, and my wife got her tubes tied at the time of delivery.

I checked into it and it happens more than the "experts" would like to admit.

Just remember, having a woman's tubes tied is not 100%.

My brother in law just had a vasectomy, he said it was a very simple procedure and he was on his feet soon after. He waited until his last child was 9 months. Whatever you decide, just give it a lot of thought. If you are having a c section they can tie your tubes at the same time.

I would recommend a vasectomy. My Husband had one and he said it wasn't too painful. After he had healed, the doctor told us that we needed to use protection for the next 20 times we had sex. Of course, my Husband wanted to get the 20 times over with ASAP!

He had the vasectomy done when my son was around 4 months old.

Hope that help!

vasectomy!
My husband had one performed when our now 22 m/o son was 2 mos old. It was quick, and other than the shot t numb the area, he said it was painless. He abided by the rules, and sat with ice on it for 24 hours. It was done on Friday, and he went to work on Monday! Everything looks and perfoms normally. I am thankful that he did that b/c I did not want to go through a "true" surgery. It wouldve been painful and expensive. The risks with tubal ligation is much higher. After all, we give birth- they can get snipped!

I would recommend a vasectomy (and kudos to your man for contemplating this!) only because its ambulatory surgery for the guy, whereas with a woman its considered major surgery and requires general anesthesia and a protracted recovery time. Men are up and around in a couple of days and are usually back to their normal activities in far less time than women who get Tubal Ligation.

Furthermore, vasectomies can often be reversed if you decide down the road that you want to have another baby; Tubal's are not so typically successful. And even if a vasectomy isn't successful, sperm extraction is still FAR easier and less costly than ovum extraction for in vitro fertilization methods.

Finally, cost. Vasectomies are about 1/3 the cost of a Tubal.

vasectomy is a very quick procedure - out patient and I hear the guy fears little pain. If you have both decided that this is your last baby, then I would do it sooner rather than later. You are very fertile after giving birth

Never had any experience with these, but I do happen to know that vasectomies are far less troublesome (less invasive) than getting the female tubes tied. I would go with that. Just make sure your man makes a deposit to the sperm bank in case you change your mind! Far easier than having the operation reversed.

Well, I think that the man should get the vasectomy, because the women go thru enough pain with pregnancy and labor. I never looked at it this way until a friend of mine brought it up.

Look at it like this
if u have a c section then just get ur tubes tied then
if u go natural then have him go for a vasectomy its easier for him and hes back to normal in a day or too!

I'd vote for vasectomy. Tubal ligation is potentially dangerous and vasectomy is generally considered harmless. Both procedures should be viewed as non reversal.
