A woman's body is hers to control, but why couldn't she control in the first place by taking the proper steps (abstinence, condoms, birth control, self control, etc) to avoid an unwanted pregnancy? Intelligent answers please.

I agree with you! Women should be responsible and if you make a 'mistake' (I HATE THAT TERM) they shouldnt have the right to MURDER!!

Abortion is wrong and im not giving my oppinion from a religious point of view but from a MORAL point of view.

Tell me what is the difference between someone who goes out and kills 5 people and a women who keeps on having abortion after abortion... Both are Murderes!

The people who are saying "I disagree with all abortion" are not providing any valid reasoning. To those who argue that girls who are responsible to have sex should have to deal with the consequences, your opinion screams of spitefullness. Maybe the sex was a rape, maybe it was a mistake, maybe birth control didn't work. Whatever the reason, the determining factor of the abortion should be the best interest of the fetus, which can only be aborted as a fetus, so stop calling it a "CHILD." Children do not get aborted. Carrying a baby should not be punishment for having sex, as the person who talked about the nine month pregnancy indicated. I understand the adoption route; it is most certainly a worthy consideration. However, I think a mother should have the right to choose if she wants to add another child to this system, where it may or may not get adopted. By no means are foster homes and adoption agencies flawless. Many children go un-adopted, mistreated, or damaged from the system. A mother should be able to decide if she wants to subject a fetus to this. While you can quote the bible, or talk about what Jesus wants, I'm glad. It's wonderful that you have some type of morals. I see nothing wrong with that. If you are Christian, and believe that abortions are inexcusable, please do what you feel is right, DON'T HAVE AN ABORTION. However, not everyone has the same morals. Not everyone is Christian. This country is not Christian. That is why we are supposed to institute the separation of church and state. Do what you think is in the best interest of the child. Do what you think is right. This should stand true for teenagers too, as they are generally less capable of caring for a baby than an adult. For girls who have chosen to abort, you shouldn't be made to feel guilty by these preaching, non forgiving people. Learn from your mistakes, and try to be a good person.

Wouldn't it be a perfect world, if that was the case. It takes two to tango, and reproduce, so I don't think it is simply a bunch of slutty, lazy, immoral women perpetrating abortion.

Abortion is what I consider a "necessary evil." Whether I would ever choose to have one or not, I believe it should be a woman's choice if she deems it necessary.
It is such a complicated issue, terminated pregnancies are not simply the result of someone sleeping around.
Pregnancies can be the result of incest, rape ,premarital sex, adultery, the list goes on and on.
I don't think abortion should be used as a method of birth control by any means, but this is the very fallible human race we are talking about.
The world would be a better place all around if everyone did the right and proper thing, but that is just not realistic. Therefore, we have to deal with some unfortunate circumstances.

Conveniently, you forget the fact that men are also, equally responsible for pregnancy.

Women should use self-control... how about men?

Women should use, uh, condoms!? Whoops, there's a problem with that line of thinking... the man refuses to use condom and the woman is responsible for this somehow!?

This sounds like the kind of limp thinking men use when they are trying to weasel out of responsibility.

Use protection, both of you. But you both gotta know that protection doesn't always work. Partly there are procedural issues (there's more to using a condom than you'd think!) and partly, stuff doesn't always work. And if you have sex, you ARE responsible for the outcome.

If you knock a girl up, and she wants to keep the baby, that's her decision and hers alone. What the heck are you going to do? Weasel, manipulate and evade responsibility? That's the path of untold misery and regret. The best thing you can do at that point is go with it. Put your best into it, be the best husband and father on earth, and make her the luckiest wife on earth. This is not a bad thing. There are few other situatuions where something that starts so bad can end so good.

You may not want to make that sharp turn in your life when you have sex with a woman, but you've consented to if the protection doesn't work. That's how it is. Life is not risk-free.

Since fatherhood is the highest calling available to a man, I have no pity whatsoever for anyone who becomes one.

There are so many contraceptions on the market today, that there's really no excuse for an unwanted pregnancy. Men should also take responsibility and insist on using condoms, even if the woman insists she is "on the pill".

Yes a woman has the right over HER body, as far as contraception, operations, what to put in, what to take out etc etc etc, but once a pregnancy occurs, then ANOTHER PERSON'S BODY is at stake. She does not have the right to stop that heart from beating.

Abortion is not a right, and something we never should have taken for granted as a right, because it kills another human being.

abstinence: rape, hormones. they have shown that teen pregnancy is just as high if not higher in groups of teens who have made abstinence pledges

condoms: not 100% effective, break, men lie, refuse, or dont know how to use one properly. abstinence only education, which is the only federally funded sex ed in the country, teaches nothing about how to properly use contraceptives.

birth control: Not 100% effective, some women can't take it(like me!) and again, not everyone knows how to use it properly or even how to obtain it.

self-control: same as abstinence.

women are not going to get "abortion, after abortion" as some commenter suggested. it isn't an easy thing to decide.

last of all, women should not be punished for having a sex drive. she should not be punished because she likes sex, or even because she had sex. what happens with her body is her business, whether you agree with what she does or not.

Why should a woman have to screw up her body with hormones? Isn't the man also responsible?

Of course since I'm responsible for my body, I'm going to use birth control, but I just wanted the discussion to go both ways.

1 abortion is murder the child may not be out of the mothers stomach yet but they have organs and they are alive 2 sometimes condoms don't work but i agree she should try to avoid an unwanted pregnancy3 she shouldn't "create" a baby until she is married in the first place

Part of the problem is that emotion often over rules good sense and people often want to please the people that they love.

Often times make promises that they don't intend to keep in order to get what they want.

And there are a lot of uniformed people having sex. There are still people who believe you can't get pregnant the first time that you have sex. That fact alone could account for 10% of unwanted pregnancies.

Hope I seem intelligent enough.

There is rape also, where a woman has no control, and birth control is not a 100% guarantee.
