Relax first of all.
This sounds like contractions, but you need to distinguish whether these are Braxton Hicks or True Labor contractions.
Braxton Hicks will be irregular with out any time patterns.
True labor contraction will happen in a pattern, say every 12 minutes.
If they are regular and reach ten minutes you need to call your doctor and if they are 5 minutes apart you need to head to the hospital.
You might want to give your doctor a call just to be on the safe side. It sounds like contractions to me, cuz I get them all of the time, but I am not a doctor.
Take care.

sit down and put your feet up for a little while if the pains get weaker or go away it is more than likely Braxton Hicks. While you are sitting there call your OB and describe what is going on.
If the pain stays the same and or if they get stronger you could be in labor. Start timing them and when they get 7-10 minutes apart or so painful you can no longer carry a conversation go to the hospital or birthing center or call your midwife, what ever birthing plan location you have choosen **Helpful hint** Taking a warm shower sometimes will help ease the pain and if in labor it will also relax the muscles and help the baby settle into the pelvis deeper and speed labor. Another thing if it is labor walking will also help speed it along. Doing anything but laying in a bed flat on your back will help speed labor along

I'm 37 weeks pg with baby #8. For me, I'd do some mild walking. If it is real labor the walking will pick up the ctx and if it is still pre-labor, it will actually slow them down. Start making notes as to how frequent the "pain" is, how long it lasts from start to finish, and how intense it is on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being mild.
You can also try a warm bath. Warm water always makes my non-labor ctx go away and makes my real labor ctx much easier to handle.
If you are seeing an ob or midwife, go ahead and give them a call and just let them know what you are experiencing. The absolute best advice I can offer you is to try and RELAX with each ctx once they kick in. I know that will sound really strange, but if you fight the ctx and tense your body up, it will hurt. If you do your best to focus on relaxing ALL of your body, it will allow the uterus, which is a muscle, to do the work it needs to do.
If you are indeed in full labor, CONGRATULATIONS! You'll be holding your little one soon.

Go to the Dr. back pain is the main thing they told me to watch for because alot of times you have what they call back labor before you start to have contractions in your belly. So call your Dr, pack up and head to the hospital. Good Luck

It sounds to me like you are in labor. I am a mother of three under 5 and that is the first sign of contractions. Call the labor and delivery unit at the hospital
