is it still cheating even though you are doing it for fun and have no intentions of meeting up with people online?

It is not cheating, but it's certainly stepping on the path towards cheating.
It's like if you asked, if I buy a stove, is that the same thing as cooking? No, of course not. And you could just have the stove in your house, all hooked up and ready to go, and never cook anything. But if you truly had no intention of cooking anything ever, why did you buy the stove?
Same thing.

Well no and yes.
How would you feel if your spouse did the same thing and someone wrote that person and was interested and you found out...I bet you would get a little jealous.
Its not right because your tempting with fate.
Once my ex and I started to do eharmony because we wanted to see if we would match eachother...i got tired of filling out the personality test so I stopped but he had completed. He got an email from someone interested in him we joked but he immediately went and closed down his site.
Its just not something emotionally you would want to do....and if you are married its worse then if your just dating someone.
I always just say think if the roles were reversed..and if you say well you wouldnt mind well what would your spouse think....thats what really matters
you wouldnt be asking if you didnt think it was somewhat wrong

Well if you dont meet anyone then technilly you are not cheating BUT you are opening yourself up to alot of trouble if you do because no matter what you tell your spouce or bf/gf they are going to think you are looking,And no matter how strong you are in your relationship you could always be caught in a weak moment and think the grass is greener on the other side and destroy your relationship

I think doing that is only okay if you and your partner agreed upon it. If you did it behind his or her back even if you had no intentions of cheating, it will still cause some distrust.
Honestly, why would you want a profile on a dating site if you dont want to find anyone?

If you are doing that behind your girlfriends back than that is deceitful on your part, but it can eventually lead to cheating if you have problems in your relationship and you happen to like a person online. Who's to say you won't hook up with that person

I wouldn't think it was funny at all. Even if he wanted me to join in on the 'fun'. why would you do that to others? It is just down right mean! Me and my b/f read ad's in the paper sometimes and crack up at people. But I would never be on a dating website takling with people just for fun. WAY, not KEWL!

Its cheating if the significant other does not know about it. But they do know and are ok with it its not cheating. Intentions can change is the relationship goes sour so that fun can turn out to be a foul.

If you just have a profile and see what kind of responses you get, without acting on them whatsoever, I suppose it's not (although if you don't tell your significant other and they find out, it will look suspicious). If you're flirting with the people who respond to you, even if you don't intend on meeting up with them, I would say that's either cheating or really close. Definitely iffy and suspicious if you're found out.

Not necessarily, but what is your agenda behind setting up such a profile? You may meet someone that you do want to meet in person. People think they fall in love on these sites everyday. But who knows you may meet that perfect someone.

As a dating consultant, I would highly recommend that you cease and desist from using a dating site while in a marriage/long-term relationship. Or, you will find yourself contacting me, or someone like me, in the near future!
