i have the dell xps 1710 laptop computer. I purchased something like maybe 6 months ago? It has run better then most desktops i have put it up against. I play all sorts of games like counter strike source and battlefield 2 and all and have no problems whats so ever.

Its great when you are on-line with people and they are talking how there home built system which is "top of the line and better then any store system" is just not working and you say yo have a dell xps and everyone boos and then you say but i am getting 120 frames per second on all setting high lol.

I also have a home built system which is really advanced as i just built it about 8 months ago and it evens and sometime beats the desktop. I love the computer and since dell actually bought Alien ware systems there is no other choice :)

i have allways been highly critical of dell p.c,s but after reading a reveiw of a dell xps machine i must admit these p.c,s are not bad
unlike the cheaper models which should be avoided like the plague(have no pci-e or a.g.p...just pci-bus),the xps models are well put together and well thought out
dell havent gone budget on the graphics and the geforce 7900/7950x2 are the order of the day, plus sound is excellent aswell in the shape of a soundblaster x-fi
dell have also pushed the hard drive capacity to over a terrabyte(1000 gb),so there is massive amounts of storage
some manufacturers state their systems have 1 tb of hard drive space but sometimes this is 4 drives each 250gb and put in raid formation, and as some raid formations mirror this means if one drive fails the others are unusable
in a case like this i would wipe the drive and install my os in the first drive and then use the rest as local disks for storage, the extra speed you gain in raid(redundant array of inexpensive disks)is not worth the hassle of loosing 1 terrabyte of data
dell p.c cases have come a long way and the xps case is a neat little number, complete with plastic locking clips instead of the old screws, and a nice black effect to the case with excellent cooling potential
memory comes form ddr2 sdram, running at 667mhz,and with some systems coming with up to 4gb,dont settle for anything below 1gb
on the whole the xps are the crem,da,la,crem of the british p.c market only rivalled by mesh and evesham p.c,s
also look for a good warranty when buying a dell p.c,this is the only thing that can let down a decent purchase, and even if you need to pay a extra few quid,a warranty is a must when buying a power p.c,look for onsite,at least a year
good choice

Well..Yes it is a good computer. What exactly do you want to do with your computer? If you are into multimedia and gaming, you might want to get a good graphics card. If you are simply getting a computer for like research/internet, a lower end computer will work for you.
