I haven't had a chance to go to the store yet and get Raid, but I'm hesitant to because I have 2 dogs that will eat almost anything. I want something safe that I have at home to kill those tiny black ants that I have started to come into my laundry room (has linoleum floor-my dog water/food was also there but I moved it to another part of house). What can I use that will work quickly but also be safe for my dogs?

They are going to the dog food and the water dishes---move them and the ants will be at a loss for a food source. The dogs can eat someplace else long enough to get rid of the ants. You can also clean the area with clorox or bleach and they don't like that. Dove dish soap is awesome in getting rid of bugs, kills mosquitoes and you name it.

Boric acid traps. Get Roach Pruf and a couple of small jars with tight lids. Poke small holes in the lids. Make a simple syrup......sugar/water boiled. Let cool add Roach Pruf. Take cotton balls, dip in solution, squeeze off excess...alittle. Put into jars, put on lids, tape on lids with duct tape to discourage the dogs. Lay jars on side so ants can crawl in, get the juice and then take it back to the queen and the rest of the girls.

For meat eating ants, the biters, mix Roach Pruf with peanutbutter or even lard. Dab in the jar, continue as above.

Since you have the dogs, put the baits in a box with side holes so the dogs can't get in.

Then again, boric acid blown under the floor molding and under sinks helps a lot too. Lay a small line next to the molding and then using a straw, go down the line and puff the powder under the molding. Wipe up excess so dogs don't.

The best thing is sevin dust. Non toxic to animals and humans, but is a cholinest-erase inhibitor, and kills all insects on contact. They have to walk over it, so you can put it around the ants' entry into your home, and they are done for.

Raid spray is about the only thing I know of to control those nuisances. Ant traps don't work on them.
