The easier and fastest way is to restore the iPod. It'll delete everything on it. Just follow instructions below:
To restore iPod nano:
1. Connect iPod nano to your computer.
2. In iTunes, select iPod nano in the Source pane and click the Summary tab.
3. Click Restore to restore iPod nano to its original settings (this erases all data from iPod nano). Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process.
Good Luck!

The best way is to Re-Format as this will remove everything including any extra info that has been put on, such as photo's etc.
Assuming you are on Windows, open up the " My Computer" folder from the start menu. Highlight the drive letter that represents your iPod. Right Click on it and select "Format". If it gives you an option, select "Full Format" after a short time, the job is done. Start again from scratch.
If you are not confident or just wish to use iTunes, then you can "select all" and then press Delete. This will not actually remove the information, but resets the iPod to consider the files gone! They are recoverable with after market software until over written, as new music is installed.
A Re-Format, is like taking all your music to the local tip. When its gone, its gone!
Deleting in iTunes is like leaving it out for the Bin Man. Until its taken, you still have a chance of recovery!

Go into Itunes and delete all files from your library, then sych iTunes with the iPod and the disk is ready to go. You can also, as the iPod is still hooked up to the computer and you are on the iPod page of iTunes, restore the iPod and bring it back to original settings. Being its just the Nano, it will be faster then the iPod Video, and the Video is pretty fast to delete and sync things as well.
