I agree with you! They say it's because clothes look better on taller models. I beg to differ.
Women/men come in all sizes and shapes. They should have realistic models that most people can relate to.

FIRST OF ALL I know this was a question from ages ago but I'm quite offended by what people have said. I'm thin and average height I'm age 13. I don't skip meals I eat normally I'm healthy Etc. some describe me as petite because that what I am . BUT GUESS WHAT I represent a real person too! Just because you aren't skinny doesn't mean you can say we aren't real people. Yes I disagree with models being petite all the time but you listen here ! Just because some people are naturally skinny doesn't mean we don't represent real people as we are stereotypical . No matter what shape size colour gender or race we are all human and we all represent being realistic. And by the way there is plus size models . What I get mad about is how models always have to be tall , you can get non skinny models but you can't get short ones . What about people with illnesses that make them short ! They have their dreams of being a model crushed because of the height requirement. * short girl drops mic

Im 5'1 and I for one am not giving up hope and neither should you. If you want to be a model then go for it. My goal is to help people realize that there are more girls out there that are 5'1-5'6 than 5'9-6'0 feet tall. I am petite and short and in my opinion if they'd atleast give it a chance and try clothes on us then maybe they will see that we are just as beautiful and unique. I hate the stereotypical "model". I have wanted to model since I could walk and I am waiting for the day that I get to model. Good luck. I really think that if enough of us SPOKE UP about this we could change the whole look of modeling and include little petite women in modeling as well as shorter women/men in general.

A taller body is easier to photograph and the clothes hang in a certain way. A shorter person can still be a model, but probably not a catwalk model. You could look into cosmetic, hair, etc. modeling.
By the way, I'm tall and thin, but I have a big rib cage. I'd have to have my lower ribs taken out to be a model. I wasn't born to be a model and neither were you or most people in the world. Models are supposed to be exceptional. Most of us are just everyday normal people, and that's okay.

On the runway...short models have no chance!!!
You have to be at least 5'9'', you can sometimes/usually get by with 5'8''
I am a commercial print model because im only 5'7'' and i still love it. how tall you are also depends on your age. You just have to find the right agency. I highly recommend going to a modeling school first. Yeah, it costs money but its sooo worth it! I learned so much and was given amazing oppourtunity!

Short people arent the ideal proportions for major designers and thier product.. this is a business.. not a civil rights issue.. as a designer you want a certain look that shows your product in the best possible light.. thats all there is to it.. short models arent gonna do that.. Being a model, Like any other job has certain qualifications... some of them being young thin & tall.. what can I say?
Is it fair? certainly its fair.. its a job requirement... You wouldnt let a highschool drop out take your appendix out would you? Is it your fault your short? No not really.. thats a matter of genetics.. But it dosent qualify you for any particular job either.. and thats all this is.. its a job... supply and demand.. and there really is no call for a short model.. remember the KEY word here is MODEL.. remember the model serves the design not the other way around... Contrary to what yer parents & school counselor told you.. everyone cannot be anything they want to be.. thats not realistic LOL (hell its not even close)

That's a bummer that you didn't make it into that modeling search. How tall are you anyway? I'm only 5'5" to 5'6", yet I know that most modeling careers require ladies to be 5'9-5"11". I think normal or average sized people should be allowed to model. When they screen ladies, looking for those "giants," I think they, in a way, define what a young woman should look like. However, those models are unique, not like the everyday girl. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, "Yes, I agree with you completely!"

short models would be nice, I'd like to model, but the industry is biased toward a certain look, there's nothing we can do. If you're not "perfect" and skinny and tall they don't want you. If you think about it though, fashion designers don't know who is going to be wearing their clothes, so it's nice to know the average height for shows so you don't have to waste time making a dress longer or taking several inches off, most of the available models can jump right into it hassle free. When it comes to advertising of products and such though you are completely right, it's not fair. Either way, what ever happened to "equal opportunity" I guess they don't consider it that.

It is terrible that shorter women aren't allowed to be fashion models, but I don't see that changing anytime soon. Designers like the looks of their clothing on tall, thin models.

The New York City modeling industry bases the height of models on the "fit models" for whom the fashion designers create clothes, not on the size/height of the general public.
Recently the size/weight of professional models in NYC was changed to 5'9" tall and weight of 125 pounds.
