My 1998 Chevy Malibu's fuel gauge and temperature gauge are not functioning? Any suggestions?

I'd check the sending units first (most likely to go out first) second I'd look for a short in the dash electrical system if they both went out at the same time (on the ground side)

Either a fuse, ground wire or voltage regulator on dash circuit board is gone
