Hi a friend of mine has a problem with the mouse on his laptop. The left click button is not very resposive and he has to press it about 6 times for it to work. Also the curser will move all over the screen on it's own.

Anyone got any ideas

ah, the wandering mouse syndrome. Its common problem across the majority of the inspiron range. There are two ways I've fixed this problem in the past, the first was to reinstall the touch pad drivers (you can get them from dell's website by putting in the laptop's service tag), but if that didn't work, it would be a windows reinstall, but there wasn't any important documents or anything i needed to keep so just scrubbed it. Also plugging in a USB mouse and disabling the touch pad made the mouse act normal.

I'd give the first option a bash, the service website link is below, if its still a problem, drop them a brief e-mail, their e-mail response team are pretty good.

Hope this helps.

Do you mean the touch pad or a mouse?
If it's a mouse, then he can just replace it with a new one, and see if that solves the problem.
If it's the touch pad, the first thing I would do is get a can of compressed air, and try to clean it up. If that doesn't work, he might have to pop it open to figure out the problem. If he has never worked on laptops before, I recommend he take it to a technician, but be sure to tell him to back up important data, just in case.
