Do you think the government should be able to tell you if you are allowed to have an abortion or not? Do you think that South Carolina should force women to look at pictures of the fetus before having this procedure done?

What can be done to stop unwanted pregnancies (I know the obvious answer) or at least reduce the numbers.

If these women are being intimidated into having these babies, who will take care of them? Would it be better to allow them to have abortions rather then to allow them to suffer with parents who don't love them or can't take care of them? Or to remain in an orphanage? Not all of them will be adopted.

It's sad either way. I'm interested in intelligent thought provoking conversation and answers to think about. Not pictures of abortions or nasty/uneducated comments.

Thanks

Man ..you have opened a can of worms. As usual the abortion is murder freakazoids are out there in droves. Lets get things straight, it's not a baby they abort...it is a collection of cells that is no bigger than the blood clots expelled by most women every month. Even though we have the pill and a myriad of contraceptives they ALL have a failure rate. That is apart from the conceptions achieved by date rape, rape, seduction of young girls, incest, and many more ways women are taken advantage of and then left with the consequences. Before abortion was legalised people still had abortions...BACKYARD abortions and thousands died in the process. The anti-abortionists like to hold up to people one or two women who use abortion as a contraceptive but the reality is that it is not an easy decision for any woman but often it is necessary. One thing I do know is this...people who have no solution to what will happen to these children who are born unwanted to mothers who don't have the facilities to care for them have no say on the subject. MEN who have no idea of what a woman goes through either emotionally or physically should have NO SAY. It is a woman's right to decide whether her whole life will be spent devoted to a child she didn't want to appease people she doesn't know or NOT. And whatever she decides is between her and HER God...judge not lest ye be judged...and no person on earth can and should judge her for something that is usually a last resort.

freeman, you stated that a fetus is just a bunch of human cell tissues are not the exact same to the woman's DNA. When the sperm fertilizes the egg, the fetus is made of both the mother's DNA and the father's DNA, which is done on the day of conception.

Many mothers, whether teens or not, are not informed of the options and what really takes place from the day of conception. I do not think this is a violation of a woman's rights whatsoever. It's simply educational material. It's no different than any other doctor giving his patient informational material about a prescribed drug.

A fetus "child" has just as much rights as a woman. Abortion is murder and women should not have a special privilege to do so. When they say, "Every Child Wanted." I think about many other circumstances where once something is conceived, it is not always wanted. For example, dogs. Dogs are abandoned and abused all the time. Dogs get pregnant, but we don't abort them, do we? NO...they have their pups and are given to the Humane Society or other organization to be adopted by a loving family. It's amazing how animals are given better treatment and everyone is loved, but a child comes along and somehow, we have no time or room for it. Yes, we do, just as much room for a dog.

Sooner or later everyone will have so many rights we won't know the difference between white and black.

There's a much much larger debate behind the very essence of abortion laws. And that is "when exactly is the embryo considered evolved enough to be considered a human being?" Life does NOT begin as soon as an egg is fertilized. When that happens the incredibly small ball of matter is no more alive then what I sneeze out of my nose. I feel that abortion laws should not yet be in favor of abortion or against abortion until we do additional research to establish when a human embryo actually reaches a state in which it can be considered alive. When that is done, an abortion before that state should be allowed, while abortion afterwards should be completely outlawed. I belief that abortion is murder, but after a certain stage in development. People shouldn't be given the luxury to wait months to decide if they want to have an abortion or not and let the embryo actually develop into a fetus.

Should the government tell a woman what to do with her body? No. But what to do with someone else's (innocent baby)? Yes. I love the idea of woman needing to see the sonogram before making the decision. Many people (including pro-life) feel the baby "isn't real" until they see it. I have two small daughters. I am pro-life, but they didn't seem "real" until I saw them on the screen- with heartbeats -AT 6 WEEKS! I believe women should be completely informed before they go through with it. I truly believe it would save lives. I have a friend that had an abortion now, years later is having a baby. She is in therapy and cries all the time over the guilt she feels for killing a baby- she felt this way ever since seeing her son's sonogram.

Please, no matter how you got pregnant, the baby did nothing wrong- please don't kill him/her.

HOWEVER- we need to do some serious work on how mothers are helped. Many women feel that abortion is the only option because they cannot afford to provide for the child. I also sympathize about the orphanage/foster care thought. But think of it this way- would you walk in to an orphanage and kill the children there? Well, of course not! They are children! Well, in my opinion- same thing.

As another thought, our lives effect more than just us. Who's best friend would you be taking away, who's mom or dad, whose teacher? I am NOT unsympathetic to the fear and confussion women must feel.

***And the pro-lifers need to step up and put their time and money where there mouth and heart are. I mean, if it we want these children to live so bad, we had better be ready to help these mothers out.***

Ok, sermon concluded! Thanks for the question!

I am against abortion, for I believe that everyone should have a chance to live.
Even if they don't get adopted, is it really right to take away that person's life?

And I think that making people look at the ultrasound is just giving the mother another chance to consider that she's killing essencially a baby.

An unborn fetus is still a baby, because if you really think about it, it will grow into the shape of a baby. A fetus IS a baby, a person, and people don't have a right to say which people should live or die.

The government has a right to protect human life.

Women can do whatever they want with their body. Unfortunately, a fetus is a group of living human cells that do not have identical DNA of the women. Therefore, these human cells are not part of the women's body like all of the other human cells or non-human cells within her that she has the right to do with them what she wishes. Therefore, this is why there is so much debate on this issue.

Also, my opinion holds no weight because I am a guy, but at least I get two points.

I'm completely for abortions, especially for girls under 21. This country, let alone world does not need any more unwanted children. I think in a rare situation where abortions are repeatedly misused by the same person should be deemed excessive and wrong. But, everyone is prone to having an accident and abstinence is pretty ridiculous. And now you'll confront me with the issue of responsibility. "If your going to have sex, you have to take responsibility for the repurcussions." Well, **** happens..things don't always fall into place. Teenage parents are the worst place for kids to end up, and IMO are better off having abortions. Adoption isn't an option because our country is full of unwanted kids and this number only keeps growing. It seems cruel, but in the end it's neccessary. Our population numbers are already getting out of hand, whose to say what the future numbers forhold. Teenage pregnacies are ruining the futures of our younger generation. We've all seen the girls at school walking around 7 months pregnant. Most usually drop out to take care of the kid, and what happens to most of them??..They never finish high school, and leave their kid prone to following their same path. Abortion's are not the government's decision! They have no right to restrict my personal decisions.

This is a very sensitive issue.
Personally I DISAGREE with abortion, and applaud South Carolina for this, since a woman has decided to have one she should know what abortion fully impplies.

I respect everybody's choices but you have to make your choices based on all the evidence and facts.

Nobody can tell you WHAT to do but if you are doing something (anything) you'd better be completely informed

Interesting question. Here's another: Do you also believe that a woman and a man should have the right to contract with each other for an exchange of sexual services for money? (ie, prostitution?). Same principle, isn't it? Or do you find that "demeaning" and "exploitative"?

The question is does what your doing with your body affect other people? Drugs, violence, prostitution and murder are things you can do with your body and why society has laws against them. Getting pregnant is not like catching a cold. Individual rights do not supercede the rights of a civilized society.
