Last week, someone busted the glass out of 2 of the doors in my apartment building. Because it happened overnight, some people tracked it around the building as they came in from or left for work.
Management replaced the glass that day but made no effort to clear the glass from the carpet around the building until yesterday (a full week later).
The job they did was mediocre at best. There is still a substantial amount of glass on the stairs and on the carpets. I could see over 20 pieces on one stair alone (stair, not staircase). One door has new glass, but the smaller broken shards are still attached to the frame.
Just now as I walked to my kitchen, I something sharp went into my foot. Of course, it was a piece of glass.
This is unsafe and ridiculous. They didn't even tell us what happened.
I'm not sure who to go to. Ideas?
(And trust me, we don't live in a bad neighborhood. But had I known this is how it would be, I would have stayed in the burbs.)

Just out of curiosity, if management doesn't respond to me or writes me off, what would be the next step?
Speaking from experience with them, I have a feeling nothing will get done if I talk to management.

Excuse me, but I didn't "trot" through it. I went to the other door that wasn't broken when I left (there are three doors on our side of the building, and two were broken). But by the time I left, the glass had been tracked through the entire building. Am I supposed to walk on the walls?

And I have no interest in suing anyone. I simply want my complaint heard that our 24 hour maintenance staff is not doing their jobs to safely maintain the building.

pictures, pictures, pictures! Show the frame with the shards, the stairs and have little pointers to each shard, carpet too......and then submit the bill for the tetus shot you probably should get along with other medical treatment. Send copies to building manager, property manager and owner. Don't get angry, use more of the "apparently you are unaware of this situation" approach. If that doesn't help, there's probably some agency in your community for renter gripe resolution.

Always contact the manager or owner first to give them adequate time to respond to a situation. If they refuse, most municipalities have building inspectors that will follow through with the current building codes. Sometimes just the idea of the building inspector is enough to get the owner moving for you. Contact the building inspector first to make sure you are protected from retaliation of raised rent or eviction-you should be.

Maybe go to the managers office and explain that maintenance left glass everywhere. Explain that you have gotten hurt and that perhaps if there are any children in the complex that they are at risk as well. Be as polite as you can while expressing your concerns for the safety of others. If nothing is done afer management hears about it. I would clean it up before anyone else was hurt. If the management continued to ignore problems I would find out who actually owned the complex and complain to them. Maybe the state's Attorney General's office could refer you to a number to call. Good Luck.

You'll have to call the property manager. They are liable for clearing up the glass, but the burden of proof for the glass in your foot will be on you in a court of law. You could have broken a glass in your kitchen will be their defense. Perhaps you can team up with some neighbors to complain around the clock to the property manager, it could yeild some results.

Well sorry, but if you were willing to trot thru this mess knowing it was there---hmmm, do you have a dust broom and a dust pan, it would have been pretty easy to take a hand in cleaning up the rest of the mess after they replaced the windows. They probably have a maintenance crew but it was not their day to be there. Just a thought. Some days you are the bug and others you are the windshield. I don't see a law suit in this. Where to go for what?

Is there like an apartment manager there? If not try to contact the owner and ask him if he has insurance on his building because you got a piece of glass in your foot and you need medical attention, that will get him hoppin'!

As an owner of rental properties...I would want to know. I'm sure the management company and or super know about it but does the owner?
Contact who you pay and ask to speak with a Manager or the owner of the property.

Whoever owns the apartment is responsible for anything in the hallway... or a strata member if that applies. If you don't own your apartment and it's rented, the landlord should be the one to go to.
