Think Laci Peterson, Natalie Holloway. I'm sure there were tons of other girls/women missing at the time, but the media centered in on them. I've heard it's partly because they were both very attractive, esp. Laci Peterson, she was very beautiful I thought. Do you think this is true? Also, I hear ppl. say that if you're beautiful, in addition to being white, then the media will more likely center in on you, that a beautiful African-American or non-white girl who goes missing would be overlooked by a beautiful white girl that goes missing. Do you agree with this too? Why/why not?

We're having a huge trial where I am for a serial killer of prostitutes. There is very little press, and the women are too often forgotten. It's really sad. And not fair. A life is a life.

Absolutely. Pretty rich white girls get most of the media attention despite the fact that they only make up a small percentage of people who go missing.

I remember a few years ago on crimelibrary.com there was a write-up about an attractive white teenager from one of the wealthiest and most influential families in their area. Eventually they found the body. I ran a general Internet search and found almost no media coverage, none of it outside the immediate area. There weren't even ever any follow-up reports. The catch was that the teenager in question was male; I'm fairly certain that if he had been female the story would have been all over the papers and television. If a person's only news source was network television, they would easily think that minorities, males, and unattractive people hardly ever disappear.

We live in a strange world.

I believe they do just like when someone attractive commits a crime they seem to get more publicity than others who have committed the same thing, for example like when the teacher(forgot her name, sorry, but she's a very pretty blonde) was having sex with her students that happened not too long ago. She got lots of media on that and when her husband did an interview the host also pointed out that his wife was getting more publicity because of the way she looked because at that time there were also a few more crimes going on where the teacher had been caught having sex with their students too. But nobody really covered those stories, it seemed, because of the way those teachers looked.

I agree completely. The cover stories about a pretty missing white girl will sell far better than an average looking white girl or a black girl. Sad but true. It's all about the almighty dollar.

Of course! The news is all about getting ratings and making money so they focus on whoever they believe will get them the most ratings.

Why? Because America has a long way to go when it comes to race relations and equality.

This is where I see racism in America at it's worst. Black kids are never listed on national news. But white kids are. This is a problem to me.

Yes that is correct, and they were not beautiful.I guess they think no other race of women is pretty enough, but we are. It's always the young white women that get all the attention. And anyone that don't see it is blind,or pretending they don't see it?
