Awww..that bear is soooo cute!! *ahem*
I agree with you. To protest that the bear should be killed seems to contradict what animal activists are all about, doesn't it? It just doesn't make any sense. Consider how panda bears have been raised in captivity. Zoo people are trying to raise the numbers of pandas, and thus may need to intervene themselves in order to do so. Yet, I don't hear animal activists booing the zoo in China or whereever.
Sorry if I couldn't clarify anything for you. Quite frankly, the animal activists perplex me too.

I think that those activists only want to do what is right for the bear. They feel that the bear will not be able to survive on its own (especially in the wild) because of the manner in which it was raised. Sometimes, when humans relieve animals from suffering, or a harder life, they actually cause more harm to the animal, depriving it of life experiences. I'm not saying I agree with the activists at all, because honestly I don't know how I feel about the situation; even though the polar bear may be cute, it still may be dangerous, or grow up to be violent.

I saw some of the report on TV with a half of an ear open but I am assuming that it has something to do with them being a wild beast or something like that I will read your link and get back to you.
I read the first few paragraphs but the bear will probable spend most its life in the Zoo so the animal rights groups just like the human rights groups are whining about nothing

It's so sad. I read another article about this little guy and it said that the activists say he should be put down because if he is raised by humans, he will become very attached to them and he will find it unbearable to live in captivity if and when his caretakers change or stop caring for him (if they transfer, die, or quit.) He will become severely aggressive and violent and will be very unhappy. I got the article from the BBC.
***Here is the link to the article*** The German people are fighting to keep him alive!!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6470509.stm
I personally don't want to see the little bear killed, but I also don't know anything about polar bears. I trust that they will do the right thing for him, whether it be putting him down or keeping him alive.
***It has NOTHING to do with Germans wanting to destroy!!!! They have this bear's best interest in mind. They will do what is right for him. They are trying to find the best solution for him. WWI was started by a Bosnian, not German. Check your facts and study your history before you go shooting off your mouth!!

I think its not natural to have aninmals in a zoo, but it is not the zoo's place to then try to arbitrarily follow nature by killing it or letting it die. If a zoo was more like the wild, the animals would eat each other instead of being fed. I say let it live.

We have animals in the zoo...
if they are their they are our responsibility since we already took it upon ourselves to snatch the poor thing out from its natural habbitat
therefor it would be cruel to kill the innocent animal
we played God once.. and we should not again
Taking it from nature was signing the dotted line.. it is our responsibility to look after it and see it has a happy healthy life to the fullest extent possible in human captivity

That poor little bear, it's so cute.
If the animal isgoing to be kept in the zoo then I don't see why they wouldn't do everything they could to save it. They obviously can't put it in the wild but as a zoo bear it should be fine.

I think it's just another manifestation of the German urge to destroy. It flares up every once in a while, and we have a world war. This is their Final Solution to the polar bear problem

I don't understand it either. I cannot make sense of it at all. If someone other than the animal rights people made comments like that, PETA would attack them.
