Like Trump? What about Oprah?
And people from every race are in poverty.
Whenever you generalize it's immpossible to get a point across, sorry... You should invest in some debate classes.

First, don't listen to these people telling you about rich black and Latino celebrities. What percentage are they of the black & Latino population? You have to draw facts from numbers, not what's shown on TV.
There are many complex reasons why blacks and Latinos are poor (and I'll blame both sides, whites and minorities):
-First, the culture doesn't help. As a Latino, I can tell you that Latino children are indoctrinated at a young age to be macho and have as many children as possible. This creates a tendency to have large families, and I don't think I need to elaborate as to why big families = poverty
-Also among some Latinos, education isn't valued much. Many Latino immigrants see education as a luxury, not something that will bring prestige, respect and security in the future. If they see a weekly paycheck, they feel they're doing OK. Often, when a teenager graduates from high school, the parents will expect the kid to get to work right away and help out.
-Another problem is that too many Hispanic immigrants are busy sending money to their relatives back home (its fine if its your mom, but your second cousin??), and since they tend to have crummy salaries, they're unable to save for their children's future.
-History is involved too. Sure, white people tell blacks to get over slavery, but it's not simple at all. Colonization (as in the case of Latinos and many other countries) and slavery (as is the case of black Americans) creates a lasting impression. The effects don't disappear in a generation or two. Colonization/slavery disrupts a culture, and when they colonization and/or slavery ends, the culture affected is left dysfunctional and with a confused identity. This results in anger & resentment. And angry, resentful people do not do nice things.
-The American economic/social system has not helped either. This system allows too much privatization in almost every factor: elites can set up private schools for their children to attend, people are pretty much free to ban certain people from moving in to their neighborhoods, small business owners are allowed to pay what they wish and hire who they wish, etc.
-Also, crimes typically committed by poor people are treated more harshly than white collar crimes
I know I'm going to get thumbs down, but this is how it is.

Living in poverty and living paycheck to paycheck are two completely different things. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck. That goes for blacks, whites, mexicans, etc.
Personally, I live paycheck to paycheck. But, i have a nice home, a nice car, and I don't miss any meals. Everything I need, and most of what I want, I have. Thats definitely not living in poverty.

Well I actually think that there are plenty of white people who are living from paycheck to paycheck as well. We just don't want to see it because white people are the ones who oppressed the minorities. So naturally we want to automatically believe that they're better off while all the minorities suffer.
And that's everyone who has to work under the man. You can have millions of dollars and have your own multi-million dollar company and you will still be working for the man. The man is money, plain and simple.

There are more than a "few successful ones"-your just seeing what you want to see. There are lots of people in poverty of every race. As far as poverty in general goes, it seems to be passed down from generation to generation. The children see this is how their parents are living and seem to think it's the normal way of life and they end up on the same road as adults. I don't think it has anything to do with race. The race card is a good excuse to stay on poverty road, though-one that is sadly used WAY too much..

Well to those who always work under "the man", they do so because they may not have any personal motivation. But this goes for ALL races. Why isnt EVERY white person successful?? SInce they have so many opportunities and what not. Its not a race issue. Its a personal integrity issue. I, and my family, have worked extremely hard to get where we are today. Why??/ Because we want better than what statistics claim we should have.

Our society is designed so that poor people stay poor and rich people stay rich. I was born poor, I'm poorer now, and I'll probably die poor. It's the rich that oppress the poor, more so than the white oppressing the blacks or Latinos. the poor are given worse education, less opportunities to prove themselves, and less access to higher education. It can be extremely difficult to work yourself out of poverty.
By the way, I am white. Poverty is not limited to "minorities."

ALL Black pro-athletes are millionaires.
Carlos Mencia is rich
George Lopez is rich
Denzel Washington is rich
and these are just a few who are on TV. There are many black and Mexican people who are well off. You don't see them on TV, that's why you feel that way. Take a drive around your city. What is the race of the homeless people on the side of the road?

POOR SILLY LITTLE GIRL, YA'LL PEOPLE ARE SO BEHIND IT'S SAD, YOU SIT BEHIND COMPUTERS WRITING STUPID COMMENTS LIKE THIS, WHITE PEOPLE ARE NO WHERE BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE, YOU MAKE SILLY REMARKS LIKE THIS TO BOOST YOUR SELF UP, GET SOME CLASS ABOUT YOUR SELF, IF THIS IS THE ONLY WAY YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD, THEN YOUR SAD. I GUESS THE NEXT TIME I LEAVE MY $400,000 HOME AND PULL OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY WAVING BYE TO MY WHITE NANNY IN MY LEXUS, I'LL THINK OF YOU. GROW UP, STOP, TRY COLLEGE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND STOP BEING IN A BOX. BY THE WAY, BEING WHITE ISN'T A GOOD THING EITHER, STOP BEING A BIGOT AND GROW UP, IT BET IF A BLACK FOOTBALL OR BASKETBALL PLAYER WHO MADE MILLIONS WERE INTERESTED IN YOU, I BET YOU'D FORGET YOU LITTLE SILLY WAYS, GO OUT INTO THE WORLD AND LEARN IT, AND STOP HIDING BEHIND COMPUTERS, YOU ONLY MAKE YOUR SELF LOOK SAD, BY THE WAY, HOW MUCH DID YOU SAY YOU MAKE, OH AND HOW MANY BUSINESS DO YOU HAVE, I MISS THAT ONE
