Okay in my CST class someone just had a computer issue, the screen was blue and had some stuff on it and told him to restart it. he restarted like 10 times and each time that blue screen is there. Isn't that called the 'blue screen of death' and what does that mean anyway? My CST teacher says she's going to reformat it and says it's no problem but this idiot in my class insists on trying to fix the damn thing himself. ( Off topic: CST is a computer building/networking class..it means Computer Systems Technology) Anyway so tell me about what's up with this computer, just in case if it happens to my computer at him I'll know what to do about it. Does it means one's computer has died?

well, back to the days of win 98 and 95, it was a bit more common and not that 'deadly'...
but after that, most windows version, have a nicer not-so-deadly msg when sth goes wrong, but when the sth is huge and really wrong and the systen cant show the nicer msg, it has no choice but to take u to the BSoD, so...yes, it's a horibble thing and would usually need u to either 'fix' ur system using an kit (most pcs come with a restore CD, but i never actually used them) or reinstall windows...
ps. i never saw that screen on win xp

BSoD can mean any number of things. People automatically think "bad drive" when they see it. Not true. It can be software conflicts, bad memory, bad drive, file corruption, virus and a multitude of other things. Ususally the best first step to correcting it is to reformat the system. There are codes on the BSoD error that can tell someone what's going on. Next time you see on take a look at it. Look for an error code like this .... 0x0000007b (then there are 4 similar numbers in brackets following the first one). This number is a clue. If you google it you can find what the actual issue is. Then from there you can make an educated decision on what to do.

Blue screen usually means a software issue, time for a reformat.

If it doesn't boot into Windows after the 1st or 2nd time, it's time to phone it in and do the same thing ........... tell the teacher you got serious issues.

then tell your classmate, he ain't nothing special, cause you can blue screen a PC too!
