I have been surfing YA under the culture/group category for a few days now, and I continue to see negative topics from whites making generalizations about all black people. Every hour I see at least three of them, degrading black culture, expressing wrong statistics that blacks are lower class, on welfare, criminals, angry, violence ETC. And Yes, I do see some blacks making similar topics toward whites, which i feel is wrong ,but the number of whites doing it on YA is three times as much.

Then, there are those white people that go from topic to topic, posting their negative opinions like its fact, for fun….no one reports them. As a upstanding citizen I refuse to believe that there are not any white people that think positive about blacks. Then, I went to school today and some of the same topics came up, most of the whites were quiet…blacks I know are outspoken and let you know what they are feeling. I wonder if most whites really believe these negative things about blacks and just aren’t speaking up? And maybe saying it on net because they arent face to face. Just wondering???

No racist jokes, Im asking a serious heart to heart question.

racism is..... The belief that race accounts for differences in human character which in turns makes that particular race superior to others. ...in no shape or form have i stated that, & Jospeh, if i had already passed judgement, it would be no reason to ask my question. Futhermore, we live in a world not color blink, its a difference between questioning to gain understanding and believing your better due to this....maybe you need to clearly read what i wrote.

i truly hope that most whites do not feel this way. i don't, and i cringe every time i read one of those types of posts. i know that regardless of what i may actually believe, because i am white, i will be lumped in with the idiots that say those things.

i think that the whites at your school were probably quiet because they may fear that anything they say will be misinterpreted as "racist." sadly, even in this day and age, i imagine that some of those white students have learned racist behaviors and generalizations from their parents and family - a tough cycle to break. and politics play an integral part of the way people form their beliefs. the republican party will still whip out the out-dated and completely untrue "welfare-mothers" myth, among many other ridiculous stereotypes, to scare people into voting for them. its wrong, but it happens nonetheless.

i also think that the majority of the negative comments (in general, not just re: cultural or race issues) are made on the internet because of the anonymity that the net provides. you can bet that most of the negative-posters would be totally embarrassed by the things they have said if somehow they could be identified with them, and would probably not say those things at all if they had to sign their real names to their posts.

I don't know about the rest of my so called "race", but I feel that whites are just reciprocating the hatred because blacks on YA are always making racist comments towards whites. I don't think any "race" is better than the other. We make up the human race. God created everyone equal and I understand what you're saying. There are people that feel blacks are all criminals, but I've seen alot of whites that break the law too. I live in a predominately white town and I see meth addicts stealing and committing all kinds of criminal acts. As an upstanding citizen myself, think positive of alot of African Americans in our society. As a so called upstanding citizen, you shouldn't generalize about the white race. I played football at a junior college where 90% of the team was black and I got along with all of them. I love black comedians, I think they're hilarious, even when they talk about whites because they speak the truth. Like Jerry Maguire says, "I love black people!". And I'm white, go figure. I'm married to a Mexican/Native American who I think is a blessing, so you know I'm not racist. I love everybody, as long as they show the same respect towards me.

Your statement before the question that you are asking contains a premise that is a broad generalization of white people. You offer no proof other than an exaggerated claim about posts on this site.

The answer as to why white people will not speak up when black people will is very simple. Black people have their speech protected by the courts. Whites no longer do. Anything that is said by a white that is not a glowing assessment of a minority group is considered racist.

maybe some people have to watch what they say because one wrong word and you have an entire race screaming that you are a racist or bigot. first, we have to stop blaming each other for the others problems. then we must think of each other as the brothers and sisters we are. I don't hate color, I hate hate. I propose a National day of Racial Healing in which All people are encourage to seek and find a person of different race, religion or political view and spend the day with them. while it may not change all of our preconceptions of the other, maybe by experiencing a brief period of the other persons life we can at least come to understand them better. peace to you and have a great day

I am a Southern white but I find racial bigotry despicable. I speak out against it wherever I encounter it. Racial hate groups such as the Aryan Nation and Skin Heads should be squished and scraped off the face of the Earth like bug scum from a windshield. unfortunately there are individuals not associated with these groups like those ignorant people riding around with a Confederate flag as a bumper sticker making racial slurs out of ignorance. Some even loving their country not understanding they are representing themselves with a flag which fought against their country in the most grievous war ever fought by the USA.

I understand what you are saying but it does sounds like you are grouping all whites together. I have answered some of the questions about black people and it was how I felt. I think the questions people put and answer on here about blacks are usually towards the ones who speak ebonics and think they need everything handed to them and yes there are white people who do the same thing. Not all black people act like this and not all white people dislike black people.

I think that you'll find that some areas of the country have more whites who have negative feelings about non-whites and other areas where most whites have positive feelings about non-whites. It will vary from place to place. Online, the whites with positive attitudes tend to not engage in "conversations" with negative whites.

Some people are just ignorant and like to post baited remarks to anger, upset, and annoy us. They're called "trolls".

Jazz - Yahoo Answers is like a sponge for people with bad attitudes and bigotry. Not everyone here is like that of course, but I have seen racial and sexist remarks and anti everything remarks that if said in person would likely get a person arrested. My quess is the anonimity here lets them say things to hurt and abuse others without worry of retribution.

Just know, everyone here is not like that. Bless.

Considering blacks make up 13% of the population and whites make up around 80%, it's difficult for whites to know much about blacks at all except for what they here and see in the media, much of which is the exploitation of negative stereotypes and nonsense.

Until people learn to think for themselves, stereotypes will contiue to be a leading source when it comes to race and culture.
