You know when you have your pictures in Windows XP (Jpegs), and you edit the in photoshop or whatever, then you save them, the actual picture is changed when you open it, but sometimes (it seems just randomly) the thumbnail doesn't change to match the new version that you'v just saved. Why is this and is there any way to avoid it? It seems to happen randomly and is just really irritating!

This is that the thumbnail is stored in a hidden windows file so that you need to right click and click on refresh thumbnail this will update the thumbnail image. This is a problem with XP that I don't think can be avoided unless you can remove the database of thumbs each time you add a new image but its not really worth it.

The thumb image is cached. You have to refresh the cached image file. Close the image in any viewer you might have then press F5.

Also you can turn off caching of thumbnail images by opening Windows Explorer, click Tools/Folder Options... choose the VIEW tab and tick "Do not cache thumbnails" If you do this then search for hidden files called THUMBS.DB and delete them.

One problem may be that the window you have open viewing the thumbnail hasn't updated, or won't until you close the photo editing software. select any file in the folder containing the thumbnail then press F5.

I dont know the how come, however if you SAVE AS instead of just SAVE .You have the option to save to original document name. Click yes then overwrite jpeg it will then update the thumbnail image.
