Depends on the application.
Some things, like social security, you are entitled to get social security on your ex-spouse's earnings even after divorce, so for them you are always divorced.
Anything involving your kids, divorced.
But for things like Blockbusters card you can put single if you want.

I would say 10 years. I just recently celebrated my 10th year being divorced and I started to write single instead of divorced. But I think 5 yrs is good.

You are legally Divorced when you receive your official, dated, Judgment of Divorce from Family Court (I waited 6 long years for mine). Single is for folks who've Never Been Married. If you remarry, then your Married.

By law.. if you are divorced you are always classified as divorced.. single means never been married... so be careful when filling out papers..

Its only that way because of the fact that you were married at one time.. yes i know.. it sucks

I don't think there's a requirement for that kind of thing. If you prefer to put single, put single.

Oh, I wasn't aware of the Social Security thing. What kind of applications are you talking ... The government really cares that I've been married and now I'm not - weird. I guess that makes since as far as past filings go ...

I have been divorced for over 6 years, and as far as I can tell, you are considered divorced. Single means never married as far as I understand it.

Unless it's beneficial to me in some way to say I'm divorced, I always say or put single. It's no one's business that I was once married, I live in the present. Are you single or attached? I'm single.

Yes you will always be divorced status unless you remarry. But you will never be single again unless that spouse dies and you become a widow or a widower. I feel that the only time you are truely single is when you are young and before you ever marry the first person you marry. JMHO!
