Radio waves are electromagnetic waves and can go through space (they don't need a medium unlike sound waves which cannot pass through vacuum). So, they go from the transmitter through space, walls etc., and reach the radio receiver.
Sunlight, X-rays etc. are different regions of the Electrmagnetic spectrum.

Before reading the previous answerer's dribble, I didn't think it was possible to be dumb enough to spew such nonsense in a public forum. On to the subject....
Radio waves are really two waves combined prior to broadcast, the carrier wave and a modulating wave. Of course this is electromagnetic energy , easily detected by antennae. (plural form of antenna). The antenna is stimulated by the passage of the radio waves (emf) and induces a small current in the branches of the antenna. This small current is processed and amplified greatly to produce the raw radio signal. The signal is demodulated to separate the true signal from the carrier wave, and then is amplified further to be sent to speakers where the continuously varying current causes a substantial magnet to pulse back and forth while being connected to a conical speaker. This rhythmic pulsing causes ripples of pressure to emanate from the speaker and our ears then receive this physical wave form which CAN NOT travel at the speed of light as sound. Or noise depending on whether you like the sounds or not.

i just learned that. i think it was that they travel as radio waves first but those cant be heard so then the energy changes into sound waves so you can hear it. there was stuff about the different frequencies too but my science teacher is not the best... =]

before radio waves used to travel as regular waves of frequency from transmitter to receiver which caused less coverage and loss of transmission. nowadays they converted to electromagnetic waves from the transmitter and they travel in speed of light and again get transmitted to radio waves by the receiver. thats what they call digital technology. for the former they use the word analog.
